Santorini Island, The Wedding Destination

After some intensive volcano eruptions throughout the earth’s history, one of the most beautiful and romantic places was created. With the growing reputation as a Wedding Destination and endless photo opportunity, Santorini is probably the heaven of photographers and lovers. You may have seen pictures of couples kissing in a sunset and on a beach. Those pictures are usually taken in this place. Head to the beach and enjoy the blue ocean view, with white, red, black sand, and volcano rocks’ incredible sight.

Santorini is one of the best destinations for tourists between all the islands in Greece. The volcanic island of Santorini is known worldwide for its two dramatic cities, Oia and Fira, with white houses and blue-domed churches at the top of the cliffs. The fact that some of these Cycladic houses are turned into boutiques and luxury hotels with infinity pools make these two towns the best places for tourists who are looking for romantic destinations. You really shouldn’t miss the sunsets there! Besides, visitors can enjoy swimming and sunbathing on black sand beaches, walking from Fira to Oia and enjoying the wine tour, since the best white wines are there.

Visiting the archaeological site of Akrotiri is the perfect choice for you if you are a history buff. Destroyed by a volcanic eruption, this place is compared to Pompeii in Italy by many people.

Furthermore, the white color of houses in the Fira, the capital of Santorini, has given this place a unique look beside the unbelievable sunsets, beach, and blue ocean. With Oia village and some other villages on the island, Fira has created the so-called Caldera’s Eyebrow. Make sure to climb and even if you don’t like taking pictures, enjoy the spectacular view of the ocean and the island. Also, make sure to try the traditional products such as cherry tomatoes and white eggs. Some people have reported that the most beautiful Island in Greece and the whole world is Santorini’s beach.

Parthenon Acropolis, History Runs Here!

The biggest temple of Greece, which was built for the goddess Athena is in the capital of Greece, Athen. Before going there and visiting one of the world’s most fabulous structures, it might be better to read about its history or simply visit the museum to know more about these beautiful places in Greece. This way, you will know what you are looking at, and the value of the place is much clearer.

It makes sense to say that the Acropolis is the most distinguished emblem of Athens. Many historic temples have remained there. The Acropolis is a gift from the golden age of Greece, dating back to the 5th century B.C., containing the remains of many historic temples, showing tremendous architectural and historical significance. There were many things in the Acropolis throughout the ages: a house to kings, a citadel, a mythical house of the gods, a religious center, and finally, one of Greece’s best tourist attractions. The Parthenon, The Propylaea, The Temple of Athena Nike, and The Erechtheion are the most distinguished buildings in the Acropolis.

Parthenon

Parthenon is a Doric-style temple with 46 outer columns and 19 inner columns and, among the others, is regarded as the most distinctive temple. The Statue of the goddess Athena is housed in the spectacular star of Acropolis, Parthenon. A previous structure known as the Older Parthenon, or Pre-Parthenon, once did exist on the present Parthenon site. Many historians believe the former Parthenon had been built in the year 480 B.C. when the Persian Empire attacked Athens; the Acropolis was destroyed. However, some experts disagree with this theory.

Acropolis Museum, Athens

The Acropolis Museum, situated in the historical region of Makryianni, stands about 300 meters southeast of the Parthenon. More than 4250 items are displayed in this museum, giving you the opportunity to walk through history. This museum, designed by Bernard Tschumi, shows a large collection of architectural sculptures from the Bronze Age of Greece to Roman and Byzantine Greece.

They also carefully keep ruins of a portion of Roman and late Byzantine Athens. The most well-known sculptures are Moschophoros (Statue from archaic period, also known in English as The Calf Bearer), Peplos Kore (Statue of a girl), Prokne Itys, and the Statue of The Goddess Athena seated on a rock.

The construction of Athen’s golden age has a beautiful view of the history of Greece. You can find the Parthenon Acropolis in the center of Athen, the city with some of the best restaurants and views in the world.

Meteora, Nature Rules

Located in central Greece, Meteora is one of the phenomena of nature. The strange rock formation in this area and the wonderful buildings of monasteries have given this place a wonderful and magical look. Meteora is also one of the places with a lot of history behind it and has an archeological site along with a UNESCO world heritage site. There are a village and a town in the foothills of this extraordinary rock where you can stay in. Also, if you are not afraid of the dark, make sure you see the city from the rocks at night. It is a beautiful scene.

The gigantic rocks of Meteora are situated on the plains of Thessaly, a few km from the town of Kalabaka. Just like Delphi, The Meteora Monasteries are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are a perfect place to visit. The Greek word Meteora means “In the air, floating” properly defining remarkable Greek Orthodox monasteries. After climbing the rocks, not just a wonderful landscape, but six active monasteries with a small number of monks (nuns) are expecting you. Monasteries are filled with religious treasures, wall paintings, icons, and libraries that have old manuscripts.

No one knows why they decided to live on a tall rock, but some vague imaginations and theories about this weird decision and geological phenomenon exist. The monks who used to live in this part of Greece during the 11th century have settled in Meteora for the first time. Their houses were the caves, and apparently, as a result of lack of safety, they claimed the highest part of a tall rock with more than 1,200 feet (366 meters) height. It was tough to get to the peak, and that was how they made themselves inaccessible to protect their lives. These days the tall rocks are connected, and visiting them doesn’t feel the same as climbing them during the 11th century with ladders and ropes. As you get to the highest part, the epic landscapes will wow you; just wait for them.

Ensure you allocate enough time to explore the whole area, including the city, rocks, Monasteries, and learn about them. Monasteries in Meteora are at the top of the mountains, near the beautiful river of Pineios. They seemingly have about a thousand years of age and were built in the 10th century. Meteora is one of the places in the world that gives you hundreds of photography spots with historical sites. If you are willing to see all these six monasteries, You’ve got to note that these gorgeous tourist attractions take a full day or more
