🏁 Tour Itinerary: 9 Days Morocco Tour from Casablanca to Marrakech Via Fes Sahara and Ouarzazate

Day 1: Casablanca

Arrive at Casablanca airport and transfer to your hotel, visit the city depends on your arrival time.

 

Day 2: Casablanca – Rabat – Meknes – Volubilis – Fez

Visit the Hassan II mosque. Departure to Rabat. Visit of the city of Rabat and the monuments: kasbah Oudaya, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and the Hassan Tower and from there to Meknés, Arrival in Meknes, a city founded in the 17th century by the Sultan Mulay Ismail. Today as well we will visit the ruins of the Roman city in Volubilis, 27 km from Meknes, and the holy city of Moulay Idriss. Stop for lunch in Meknes and continue through the plain and the farms of olives and grapes to reach Fes. Overnight in a guest house in the old medina of Fes.

 

Day 3: Full Day City Tour of Fez with a Local Guide

After Breakfast at 9: 00 AM you will start your Fes City sightseeing With an Official tour guide, Discover Jewish Mellah :
The Mellah is a Jewish quarter located in the old cities of Morocco with a walled boundary. The Fes Mellah is also walled and it has a fortified gateway. These Jewish quarters are located near the royal residencies which enabled its inhabitants to be protected from the wrath of the Muslim populace. The Fes Mellah was once solely inhabited by Jews. This was the first “Mellah” in Morocco and originated in 1438. In the early 14th century, it was founded by the Merinids, beside Fes.
The Bou Inania Medersa:
The Madrasa Bou Inania is a madrasa founded in AD 1351–56 by Abu Inan Fais, who also founded the Madrasa Bou Inania in Meknes. The madrasa functioned as both an educational institute and as a congregational mosque at the same time. It is the only madrasa in Fes which has a minaret.
Pottery & Zellij Tile Cooperative :
A cooperative where old techniques of how zellij and pottery are made. Option to participate in making zellij tile or pottery making. Great for shopping for a purchase of fabulous pottery, zellij tiled tables, zellij fountains, and more.
Dyers souk of silk, wool, and cotton :
The dyers market, located along Rue de Teinturies, is the best place to see the dying vats which have been used for centuries to soak the skins of sheep, goat, cows, and camels after they have their hair and flesh removed. You will see many tanned hides colored with natural pigments ranging from shades of brown, black, turquoise fuchsia, yellow, and orange.
The Tannery :
The Chourara or Tanner’s Quarters is the most lively and picturesque souks in Fès. The Tanneries are often located near watercourses like the Wadi Fès and at a distance from residential areas due to the strongly unpleasant smells they produce. See the wide array of leatherwork, a tradition of Fes.

 

Day 4 : Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Merzouga

After Breakfast at 8:30 AM departure from Fes to Sahara, via Ifran called the small African Switzerland, at the exit of Ifran, towards Midelt we will make a stop on the way in the famous cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, where one of the last communities of Barbary monkeys lives, a species of macaque that can only be seen here and in Gibraltar. We will take the direction to the impressive valley of the Ziz, passing through the calcareous stone gorges lined with tall date palms, and mixed with the constructions of adobe houses. In the afternoon we will follow the road to Merzouga until we reach the Great Erg Chebbi. There we will leave the 4×4 and ride the dromedaries that will take us to the heart of the desert where we will spend the night in the Berber tent.

 

Day 5 : Merzouga Desert of Ouzina

In the morning we will go back to the hotel with the camels to shower and take breakfast and we will leave in the morning towards Ouzina, we will cross the famous track of the Paris-Dakar Rally. On the way, we will pass through different Berber villages and we will meet some nomads in their tents and drink tea with them to know about their culture and their customs. Also, we will visit the town of slaves originally from Sudan and enjoy moments of Gnawa music they played. Then continue to the village Rissani, capital of the Tafilalet region, where we will walk through the animal market as well as its souk, and then, we will visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif the founder of the Alaouite dynasty. We will explore the souks and enjoy a Berber pizza in a local restaurant. By the afternoon, we will drive back to Merzouga and check in to your hotel’s pleasant and peaceful stay. Dinner and accommodation.

 

Day 6: Merzouga – Rissani – Toudra Gorges – Dades Gorges

After breakfast, we will continue our route towards Boulmane Dades (Gorges of Dades). We will drive through the Ziz Valley until we reach Erfoud, to visit the fossil quarry and see how they are transformed into real works of art, tables, and other pieces. We continue the trip to Tundra Gorges to visit the big canyons and take some photos from the panoramic view over the oases. We will stop for lunch in a local restaurant and then continue to the Gorges of Dades where we will spend the night. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 7: Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate Kasbahs – Ait ben haddou – Marrakech

In the morning we will go to the famous Gorges of Dades. In our tour, we will see landscapes of singular beauty, where a series of green oases are fed by the river of Dades. Little by little the valley narrows, giving way to a thick series of calcareous blocks with vertiginous walls “the Gorges of Dades” a pleasure for the eyes. We will continue driving and about 12 km. we will take an off-road, through the mountain of Amgoun, the Valley of the Roses, and the palm grove of Skoura with its kasbahs. In Ouarzazate we will stop to visit the world heritage Kasbah of ait ben Haddou marked by UNESCO as world heritage since 1987 and the place where many famous movies were shot, like; Gladiator, heaven, Lawrence, Alexander, the kingdom of heaven, ….After lunch, we will continue to Marrakech through Tichka pass 2260 M high and enjoy the landscapes of Berber villages settles in the foothills of the mountains. Arrived in the afternoon to Marrakech and transfer to Hotel.

 

Day 8: Marrakech Guided City Tour

After breakfast, we will visit the city, full of places of unparalleled architectural and cultural value, and the famous, exotic, and frenetic Jemaa el Fna Square, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You will visit the Bahia Palace and Saadian tombs, then you will stop for lunch and then continue to the Berber markets the souks to discover how the artisans work and explore the lifestyle of Marrakech people. Night in the same hotel.

 

Day 9: Marrakech OR Casablanca Airport

Departure to Marrakech airport or Casablanca airport is depended on the flight time and END of the trip.
