Things To Do in Rabat

Chellah
Chellah is the remains of a medieval fortified PreIslamic city embedded in the center of Rabat. Chellah, which was rebuilt by a Merenid Sultan, is an atmospheric destination rich in charm and history where you’ll find abandoned structures and overgrown plants intertwined with colorful fauna and flowers. Take a stroll around and explore the past, from a bathing pool to a madrasa of the Roman and Islamic ruins.

Hassan Tower and Tomb
It was supposed to be the minaret of the majestic mosque of Yacoub al-Mansour, but it never was completed. What you see is just an incomplete structure designed with intricate carvings and open surroundings. The stunning mausoleum of King Mohammad V and his two sons is located just opposite the Hassan Tower. Both Muslims and non-Muslims are allowed to visit inside, where you’ll be captivated by the gold-leaf ceiling, unique carvings within the plain white building.

Kasbah Des Oudaias
Kasbah des Oudaias is the oldest and original sit of Rabat, covered with stunning ocean and river views. It’s now used as a beautiful and peaceful residential area with small narrow white-washed and some refreshing blue painted streets. If seeking an insight into Rabat’s historical life, right head straight up to the Kasbah des Oudaias and explore the characterful and dainty streets.

Andalusian Gardens
The Andalusian gardens are the home to the Palace Museum, showcasing Moroccan culture and art. The French founded these incredible gardens in the 20th century, where you’ll find lemon, orange, and banana trees complemented with ancient Andalusian shrubs and flowers. It’s a getaway to escape from the noise of bustling urban life and crowds. Wander around this tranquil oasis, refresh, and admire the beauty of nature.

Rabat Zoo
Rabat Zoo is a newly-founded zoo (2012) housing over 130 species of animals, from reptiles to giraffes living in a relaxing atmosphere. You can explore all the continents here in the simulated desert, mountain, rainforest, and Savannah habitats. If an animal lover, Rabat zoo is the right destination in the middle of a large capital city.

Natural Science Museum
A Mecca for curious minds and archeology enthusiasts, the Natural Science Museum showcases chronicles of the origins of the earth and dinosaurs’ exhibits. Make sure to visit the Natural Science Museum and its full-size replica of a real Sauropod dinosaur excavated in the high Atlas Mountains.

King’s Palace
You’ll often find a palace ready to host the King in almost all large cities in Morocco. The Rabat King’s Palace, constructed on the remains of an 18th-century palace, is King Hassan II’s official residence. This significant city structure houses many government offices and Royal Family quarters. Travelers can only admire the King’s Palace from the central pathway, not entering the main grounds.

Beach
Beyond historical buildings, Rabat offers you lovely beaches to escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Kenitra, a town near Rabat, has a famous beach for water sport enthusiasts to enjoy exciting surfing. The beach lies on Rabat’s right edge is a perfect relaxing spot to walk on the sand and breathe in the fresh seaside air.

Old Medina
Your trip to a Moroccan city is defined by visiting the old medina, where you’ll get an authentic experience of local vibes and the traditional Moroccan souvenirs. Owing to Rabat’s much calmer and comfortable going atmosphere comparing Casablanca and Marrakech, you can take in the scents, sounds, and sights at the best prices.
