Chengdu People’s Park

People’s Park is the largest green zone of Chengdu covering an area of 112,639 square meters located in Shaocheng Road in the downtown city and Built in 1911.

Located in central Chengdu, People’s Park is one of the oldest parks in the city and a favorite place for the local people to spend their leisure time. The Park was built in 1911 and therefore, it can be considered as an old park.

When the park was established, it was called Shaocheng Park and known as the first public park in Chengdu. Inside the park, there is also a Railway Protection Movement Monument, which is considered as a Chinese Major Historical and Cultural Site. People’s Park as the largest green area of Chengdu

Because of its gigantic scale, Chengdu People’s Park is also the largest green area in Chengdu’s downtown. Besides the Protection Movement Monument, there are also other attractions within the park such several gardens, an artificial lake, a local landmark, and the century-old Heming Teahouse.

 

What is in Chengdu People’s Park?

Rockery Square

Rocket Square is an artificial hill made of  3,000 tons of rocks and you can find an amazing waterfall there. This waterfall has 12 meters of height (39 feet) and 43 meters of with (154 feet).

Goldfish Island and Teahouses

There are different things for visitors to enjoy a fun time here. As you enter from the main entrance, you can see a large stone sculpture. Go just a little further to see dancing, kite flying, and people enjoying their time. The more experienced kite flyers here send their kites so far away that you cannot easily spot them in the sky anymore.

The Lake and Heming Teahouse

The lake of the park is located in its southern section and you can rent boats there to appreciate the scenery on the water. There is also a famous teahouse here, called Heming Teahouse. There are different options for the tea there and you may also ask for a traditional Chinese ear cleaning.

There are sometimes some Chinese traditional music players near the teahouse and you may hear the sound of the erhu or the pipa. Chinese people here are mostly welcoming toward you and would invite you to join them in the recreational activates here.

Dancing Performances

There is an area inside the park where you can see everyone dancing together. Some of these people are small group dancers where you can join them and have some fun. There are also some dance performers too where you can better appreciate their art.

Fortunetellers and Shops

Getting away from the dancing and the loud music, you can reach another part of Chengdu People’s Park where there are fortunetellers as well as people drawing caricatures and candy art. There are also shops selling snacks, toys, etc. and other locals enjoying a game of cards or badminton.

Chengdu People’s Park is located near Tianfu Square and on Shaocheng Street in Qingyang District of Chengdu.

How to get to?
By Bus Get on Bus No. 5, 13, 37, 43, 47, 53, 58, 62, 64, 78, 81, or 905 and leave at People’s Park Station.
By Subway Get on Line 2 to and leave at People’s Park Station.
