Cycling Tour in Montenegro Mountains

Day 1: Arrival at Montenegro

Welcome at the airport (Podgorica or Tivat) or port (Kotor/Bar/Tivat) – Transfer to Kolašin – Check-in accommodation in Kolašin – Overnight.

Day 2: Biking Tour (B, L, D)

Routs: Kolašin – Donje (Lower) Lipovo – Gornje (Upper) Lipovo – Lipovo serpentine – bend Vratlo – Sinjajevina plateau – Pašino field – Zminičko Lake.

We start the cycling ride towards Lipovo – a village known for its green forests and cold water springs, so it is certain that you cannot stay thirsty in this village. You will enjoy a mountain bike tour that offers a great view of a large number of katuns and many peaks of Sinjajevina. Before the Vratlo pass (1737 m above sea level), the road leads along serpentines which help to overcome the large altitude difference between the end of the Lipovska valley (1200 m above sea level) and the Sinjavina plateau (1700 m above sea level). With a fantastic view, we come out on the Vratlo bend, from where the cycling measurement through the katuns and landscapes begins. Only a few kilometers cycling ride from the village of Njegovuđa in Žabljak, there is one of the 18 lakes in the Durmitor region, Zminičko lake. Get ready for a fascinating view of this gem of nature, and if the weather allows, to swim in it at an impressive 1286 meters above sea level, which attracts a large number of nature lovers to this lake. The lake, which gets its water from the spring melting of abundant snow from the surrounding mountains, is lulled into a bay, surrounded by coniferous forests, which trees are reflected in the calm water of the lake, giving it a color you can hardly see anywhere else. Who does not want to be in a bigger crowd by the lake, can enjoy a lunch package or refreshment in the beautiful ambiance and courtyard of the church of St. Georgije in Zminica. Check-in a local household near Zminičko lake where we will have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Biking Tour: Zminičko lake – Njegovuđa village – Žabljak (B)

Day for approx. 1-hour bike ride through Njegovuđa village towards Žabljak Municipality.

Zabljak is the highest city in the Balkans. It is located at 1456m above sea level. Located in the center of the giant mountains Durmitor, Zabljak is the most desirable destination for winter tourism. Nearby is the deepest canyon in Europe, the magnificent canyon of the Tara River. This small town in the north of Montenegro is surrounded by numerous lakes and a large number of mountain peaks. Due to the natural beauties that spring up at every step, Žabljak attracts a large number of tourists during the summer. The knowledge that Durmitor, outside the winter seasons, is covered with 1500 species of different plants, is a sufficient reason to visit this town. Arrival at Žabljak. Check-in accommodation. Day 4: Durmitor Ring Biking Tour (B, L)

Route: Žabljak – Momčilov grad – Štuoc – Mala Crna Gora – Sušica – Nedajno – Trsa – Prutaš – Sedlo – Savin kuk – Žabljak – Overnight in Žabljak.

Difficulty: physically demanding and difficult tour
Duration: approx. 7 – 9 hours depending on your readiness and breaks

We start the day with a mountain cycling tour where you will enjoy the beauty of the view, untouched nature, and authentic villages where the way of life has remained almost unchanged for hundreds of years.

From Žabljak, we take a ride through Pitomina to Momčilov grad and the Štuoc viewpoint. We continue downhill to the village of Mala Crna Gora and the Sušica canyon. Taking a break and replenishment water reserves. Rise to the village of Nedajno, from where you can see Mala Crna Gora and the Sušica canyon from the viewpoint. Then, towards the village of Trsa. This part of the road is classified as easy, then medium and then ascent and descent. Completely new views of the plateaus and pastures among which Prutaš dominates, and then after the ascent, a view of Sedlena beam, which dominates this part of the road. After a more demanding ascent, descent towards Žabljak, passage through the Pošćenski area to the Savin Kuk ski resort, and arrival at the starting point.

Day 5: Biking Tour (B, L)

Route: Žabljak – Motički Gaj – Pošćenski area – Durmitor – Trsa – Kruška – Piva lake bridge – Plužine – Piva Monastery – lake cruising or ZIP line (optional) – Ethno village – Krnovo – Windmill park – cycling through villages towards Nikšić – Overnight in Nikšić.

From Žabljak we cycle a route through beautiful local villages. Continue driving towards Piva Lake – the largest reservoir of drinking water! Take a break on the Bridge and look at the emerald green color that invigorates the soul and body! Arrive in Plužine, a small town located between the slopes of  Durmitor and Maglić, on the edge of Piva lake. A visit to the Piva Monastery, the construction of which lasted 13 years, and the same number of its relocation due to the construction of the Hydro Power Plant. The treasury of the monastery is one of the richest in Montenegro and consists of valuable collections of old manuscripts and the first books printed in the Balkans. After visiting the Monastery, the possibility of organizing a lake cruise or Zipline (optional). Continuing cycling to the Ethno village where we will a break. Ride to the Windmill park. Then, continuing on the old road through the villages to Nikšić. Check-in. Overnight in Nikšić.

Day 6: Nikšić City Biking Tour – Ostrog Monastery – Sokoline – Ždrebaonik Monastery – Old road Martinići – Podgorica (B, L)

Easy cycle through the city with a visit to the Church of St. Vassily of Ostrog, Rampart, and Krupačko Lake. Continuing towards the Ostrog monastery. Visit Monastery. Believers from different parts of the world visit this monastery in large numbers, for the citizens of Montenegro this monastery is the greatest sanctuary. The monastery is in the third place when it is a word about visits by Christians, right after Christ’s tomb in Jerusalem and the Holy Mountain in Greece. The descent towards the Sokoline restaurant, taking a break. Continuing towards the Ždrebaonik monastery in the municipality of Danilovgrad, which has been the center of events for centuries, its destiny was also the destiny of its people. Continuation of easy bike riding along the old Martinići road towards Podgorica – the capital of Montenegro. Check-in. Overnight in Podgorica.
