Sumela Manastırı
One of the most famous structures of Trabzon, the Sumela Monastery is located on a steep hillside viewing over the gorgeous Altındere National Park. Constructed in 386 AD, the Sumela Monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery devoted to the Virgin Mary.
Trabzon Kalesi
The foundations of Trabzon Castle, dating back to the Byzantine age, are located in Trabzon city. It’s a historic and grander structure, used as an acropolis, consisting of three fortresses dating back to 2000 BC. Alexios II of Trebizond constructed the middle and lower strongholds. You can find the signs of Ottoman sultan Mehmed II at one of the gates.
Trabzon Ayasofya Müzesi
Ayasofya Müzesi was initially the Greek Orthodox Church, but in 1584, when Trabzon was the center of the Trebizond Empire, it changed to a mosque. Situated near the sea, Ayasofya Müzesi now serves as a museum symbolizing the splendid Byzantine architecture.
Atatürk Köşkü Müzesi
An Italian architect designed this stunning mansion in 1890, serving as a Greek banker’s summer home. Later, it was the residence of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first and second president of Turkey. In 1987, it converted to an ethnography and archaeology museum.
Uzungöl
Uzungöl is among the most favorite natural landscapes for urban residents to free from the daily tensions, relax, and do some hiking. It’s a beautiful village, south of Trabzon, encircled by mountains with a lake in the middle.
