Stanley Market Hong Kong

Stanley Market is a traditional open-air Bazar located in a very relaxing and enjoyable setting near the south coast of Hong Kong Island.

Stanley Market is one of the less modern and more local markets you can visit in Hong Kong. It’s a street market with an old open-air style, like a Bazaar. If you are into haggling, this is the place where you can enjoy doing that with the storekeepers! Stanley Market is away from Hong Kong and also it’s close to the beach, which can create a more lovely and relaxing environment. (Photo by © Gonzalo Pineda Zuniga via Flickr)

Inside Stanley Market

There is a large number of shops and stalls in Stanley Market, and you can find a vast range of products here such as clothing and souvenirs. There are also other items here that you can buy at a reasonable price; and if you like haggling, you may experience a much lower price!

Traditional Chinese dresses, silk garments, ornaments, luggage, toys, paintings, and Chinese arts & crafts are some of the other items you can find here. This market is adored by both the locals and the tourists alike because you can find an enormous selection of brand-name clothes (even large sizes), accessories, home furnishings, jewelry, and many more at reasonable prices.

Food Choices

Eating food during or after shopping is a habit practiced all around the world. In the Hong Kong Stanley Market, you can choose between different Western and Chinese restaurants as well as many food stalls. The market is very close to the seaside; so you can also find food alongside the coast for having a more enjoyable setting.

Stanley Town

Stanley is a town now, but in the olden days, it was just a village on the south coast of Hong Kong Island called Chek Chu Tsuen. This area used to be a major fishing port and it has been inhabited for centuries. Today, it functions as a great and prosperous small town, which houses the famous Stanley Market.

Close to the market, you can find some temples that are worthy of a visit. The locals actively use these temples as places of worship. Because of the foot traffic, the market has brought to the town, the local worshipers are used to having tourists visit the temples. So, it is quite normal for you to have some beautiful pictures there, but keep in mind that they are still considered holy by the locals and you need to remember that.

Tourist Guide

The best time for visiting

It is recommended to start your visiting in the daytime and the best time is mid-morning. The market is located in Stanley New Street and Stanley Market Road in Stanley Town, and you can take a bus to get there.

How to get to Hong Kong Stanley Market?

Take Bus No. 6, 66, 6A, 6X, or 260 from Exchange Square Bus Terminus (close to MTR Hong Kong Station by Exit D).

Stanley Town Market is less crowded than the Temple Street Night Market or the Ladies Market of Mong Kok. It features a more relaxed environment; however, this is not a modern marketplace, so the people who like local atmospheres should not forget to visit here.
