🏁 Tour Itinerary: Ceylon Backpacker Tour
Day 1 – Airport to Mawanalla – Saradiyel Village
On arrival, you will meet our Chauffeur/ Guide, who meet and greet you at the Bandaranaike International Airport. Upon arrival in Mawanalla Saradiyel village, check in to your Homestay and you will take a rest of coupe of hours and you will be another new experience of cookery demonstration season which is conducted by traditional village mothers and including your lunch.
After lunch, you will climb to Uthuwankande Mountain with completed for beautiful trekking while you are walking to Uthuwankande you may remind about Sura Saradiyel live hood.
Saradiel’ who is also known as the Sri Lankan Robin Hood, was born in 1832 during the British rule in Ceylon. He generously distributed money that he stole from the rich, among the poor, and needy. Saradiel had a gang of robbers/companions, just like the western legend, Robin Hood. Today the legend of ‘Saradiel’ has been recreated at the ‘Saradiel Village’ located at the foothills of Uthuwankanda, the rocky mountain which had been his hiding place. A visitor to Saradiel Park can enjoy a guided tour which will take one through the life from childhood to his execution with life-size sculptures bringing to life the important personalities of the time.
On completion, back to Saradiyel village for your overnight.
Day 2 – Saradiyel Village to Alagalla Mountain (Potato Mountain) (B)
Breakfast at the hotel, Today you will be served the traditional Breakfast. After breakfast, you will be leaving for another hiking activity. Our guide will be picking us up to Alagalla mountain for trekking. Start your trekking tour from Ihalakotte railway station with your guide. We will provide you a packet of light snacks with water during the trial.
Alagalla Mountain Range or “Potato Range” is situated at the boundaries of the Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces in Sri Lanka. It has protected Buddhism and culture from the western powerful nations such as the Portuguese, Dutch, and English for approximately five centuries as a natural barrier (1505–1948). Most of the battles against invasions aimed at the Kandyan Kingdom by the western nations from time to time in their ruling period of Maritime Provinces happened at the Alagalla Mountains. Invading foreign armies were defeated by the battles at Balana (View Point) under the reign of the Kandyan Kings.
On completion, you will leave towards Pilimathalawe for the Overnight.
Day 3 – Alagalla Mountain (Potato Mountain) to Pilimathalawe (B)
Breakfast will be served at the captain lodge homestay. Today we will embark on a full-day cycle ride at Pilimathalawa and three temples. We will leave the hotel around 0800hrs. Our guide will be arranging everything for your tour. While you will be riding by cycle you will see pristine spice plants and nearby three temple complexes.
The three temples (Gadaladeniya, Lankathilake, Embekka) have been made in the 14th century before the Kandyan Kingdom was fully established. These temples are three located within easy walking distance which is given another unforgettable experience for heritage lovers.
Lunch at Hiripitiya village house. Your lunch will be made by village mothers. On completion in we will offer you a glimpse small walk from Kalugamuwa village and have a bath in Kalugamuwa lake. After you will be reaching Kandy and check into your hotel and spend your overnight at Kandy.
Day 4 – Kandy to Airport (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. Today Kandy you will do a Kandy city tour with Temple of Tooth Relic (1hrs). The Temple of the tooth is the most important place for the present Buddhist because it is the final resting place of the sacred tooth relic of Buddha known as “Sri Dalada Maligawa.” It is famous for its carvings and the beautiful art that is unique to Sri Lanka. The most important part of the Dalada Maligawa is the octagon (Pathirppuwa). Thousands of people line up each day to get a glimpse of its majesty. Kandy is also one of the most beautiful cities of Sri Lanka with its picturesque lake built by its last king, its hills surrounding the city, it’s Devales the oldest the Natha Devale belonging to the 14th century, and the palace of the last king of Kandy which are presently the districts courts and the archaeological museum. Kandy also is the center for Buddhist cultural affairs with meditation centers and Buddhist publication societies.
