🏁 Tour Itinerary: 3 Days Namib Desert – Sossusvlei Camping Safari
Day 1: Sesriem Campsite – Sesriem – Elim Dune (L, D)
The collection time is between 08:00 and 08:30 from anywhere within Windhoek. Windhoek is surrounded by mountains and we have to pass both the Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland Range. As we come through the mountains we drop down from the central plateau to grassy desert savannah. We stop at Solitaire for petrol and perhaps also afternoon tea before we continue to our first night at Sesriem. We aim to arrive at Sesriem in the early afternoon. We will set up our camp and after that, we make a short excursion to the nearby sand dunes to enjoy the sunset over the dunes and watch the colors glow and change on the mountains a perfect way to stretch before going back for dinner.
🏚️Accommodation: Sesriem Campsite or similar.
Sesriem Campsite
At the entry to Sossusvlei is Sesriem Canyon, At the foot of the gorge, which plunges down to 30 to 40 m, are pools that become replenished after good rains. Located perfectly at the entry to Sossusvlei inside the park gate is Sesriem Camping, right beside the gate into the desert and just a short drive from Sesriem Canyon where centuries of erosion have incised a narrow gorge about 1 km in length.
It is perfect for campers who want to experience the beauty of the Namib Desert with the sun setting over the Elim dune then the stars emerging until they fill the sky above you and the clicking of the desert barking Geckos and the distant howl of the Jackal. Sit by the fire and imagine what you will.
After a good night’s rest, it’s up early (one hour before sunrise) for a drive to the Sossusvlei where you can climb a sand dune and watch the colors change as the sun rises over the horizon slipping its morning warmth over the Namib desert dunes. Sesriem derives its name from the time when earlier pioneers tied six lengths of rawhide thongs (riem) together to draw water from the pools. Accommodation at Sesriem is provided in 24 campsites. Facilities found there include a gas station, convenience store, and a secure parking area.
Day 2: Dune 45 – Dead Vlei – Sossusvlei – Sesriem Canyon Hike (B, L, D)
This morning we start off early to catch the soft light of the sunrise over the desert. After passing through Sesriem we continue towards Sossusvlei along distant sand dunes on both sides of the road. We will stop at the famous Dune 45. Those who feel fit may take on the challenge of climbing the tempting dune and get a breathtaking view of the surrounding desert and dunes as a reward. After breakfast, we will take a desert walk in the cool of the morning, with a chance to see Gemsboks, Springboks, Black-backed Jackals, and Ostriches. You will visit the dead vlei, Sossusvlei, and the surrounding dunes. After that, we will return back to the camp for lunch. As the day cools off in the afternoon we will make a short excursion to Sesriem Canyon.

Blue Crane Safaris Namibia delivers the best service and after service. From going out of their way to make sure every moment is memorable, to going the extra mile, to phone calls checking in after the trip, to personalized gifts as souvenirs. Their guide, Sammy, is so friendly and delivers such a professional service. I would highly recommend them for any and everyone-from locals to tourists! You really can’t go wrong!
BEST trip ever!!! Best service ever!!!

Blue Crane organised a short 3-day tour to Sossusvlei for me. I had limited time so I really appreciated their flexibility. The cars were truly immaculate, M’gasto my guide is a boss. Totally well informed, professional and all-around nice guy. He was totally on top of our safety and comfort. Traudy and Derek in the home office are fast and professional. I can’t wait to do it again for a longer stay and with family members. Thanks guys.
