Tanzania Chimpanzee Safari Tour

Day 1: Arusha to Mahale National Park (L, D)

With an early departure from your Arusha accommodation, you will be transferred to the Arusha Airport (ARK), for the charter flight to Mahale National Park. Upon arrival at the Mahale airstrip, you will meet with the camp guides and take a one-hour boat trip to the camp. Remote and fabulous! In the afternoon, take a bush walk around the camp to discover your new habitat.

Day 2: Mahale National Park (B, L, D)

The chimp trackers set off early and radio to camp when they have located the chimpanzees. From there is it our turn to push through the incredible jungle to the desired location. You will return to the camp for a lunch and a short rest. After that, you are able to enjoy a short boat ride and learn some traditional fishing techniques in search of the Yellow Belly!

Day 3: Mahale National Park (B, L, D)

We share the mountains and the lake with so many animals, but it’s the chimps that really inspire us. Time spent with them is time away from everything else that is ordinary. But, there’s more. Hike the forest paths looking for all the other animals who quietly live here. Swim in pools up in mountain waterfalls, take a kayak out for a dawn paddle and enjoy the sunrise coming up over the mountains. Have sundowners on our old wooden dhow, stopping to fish along the way, or just relax on the warm sands of the beach with a drink in hand.

Day 4: Mahale and beyond (B, L)

After a leisurely morning breakfast, you will take a boat transfer back to park headquarters for your charter flight back to Arusha. This flight will take about five hours, with stops in Katavi and Tabora to refuel. You will arrive early in the evening.
