💎 Why we love it ?
Many stunning sites surround San José del Guaviare. You can admire a river that turns red during the rainy season (like in Caño Cristales), unravels mysterious rock paintings, observes pink dolphins, and swim in various natural pools and waterfalls. With unique biodiversity, San José del Guaviare is a destination to enjoy nature tourism and meet some indigenous communities in the Colombian Amazon.
🏁 Tour Itinerary: Discover San Jose del Guaviare
Day 1: Blue Hill – The Archaeological Route (B, L, D)
Fly from Bogotá to San José del Guaviare, Satena Airlines, 6:22 am – 7:44 am. Our guide and driver pick you up from the airport. Cerro Azul is one of the most important archaeological zones globally (ICANH), with pictographs covering around 1,200 m2 and are over 12,000 years old. To get to this place, it is necessary to travel 47 km by uncovered road (approximately 1 hour and 20 min), in 4×4 vehicles northwest of San José del Guaviare until you reach the Cerro Pinturas farm. There, the reception and recommendations are made to start the walk, which lasts between 3 to 4 hours.
The murals are divided into 2 levels. To get to the first level you have to walk approximately 25 min passing through a pasture and a section of jungle with a sloping path (medium level) where there is the possibility of observing some species of primates, birds, and other animals. Upon arrival, you can see the mural in the best state of conservation in the area. From there, the walk continues through the jungle until you reach a 210 m long cavern, quite wide and with the presence of bats, which is crossed to reach the second level that has the largest murals and a viewpoint where you can contemplate the immense Amazon jungle.
After finishing the second-level activity, you are ready to walk back to the starting point (approximately 30 min). Then, the vehicle is approached to travel to the lunch site in the peasant community of the area, which has been organized in search of sustainable alternatives through community tourism, which highlights the farm Los Chontaduros, where the tour day ends.
On this site, you can experience the life’s farmers before the Peace Agreements, also you can discover in a pedagogical way how the production of the coca base was like at the time of drug trafficking. In addition, you can interact with wild animals from the area that have been rescued.

Day 2: Damas de Nare Lagoons – Dolphin Paradise (B, L, D)
A magical place at the foot of the Amazonian mountain formed by a lagoon of 81 hectares of water mirror with connection to the Guaviare river, the habitat of the river dolphin Inia geoffrensis, locally called “Tonina o bufeo”.
Currently, peasant associations that have changed illegal crops are making a productive commitment to community ecotourism, the conservation of their forests, and their biodiversity; offering tourists an unforgettable experience thanks to the natural wealth of the area and the human quality of its hosts.
On this tour day, a 4×4 vehicle travels along the uncovered road for approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the Los Búfalos hacienda. There, a 20-minute walk begins to Caño Nare, where a canoe is boarded to navigate for 25 minutes downstream through the Amazon foothill jungle where you can see birds, primates, turtles, and other species of animals and plants.
Upon arrival in the community, tourists are greeted with a refreshing drink and stories about their way of life and interaction with their surroundings. After the break, recommendations are given to enter the lagoon that is only 100 meters away. There, a canoe is boarded to observe the dolphins (99.9% probability of seeing them) and swim near them.
After the activity after 2 hours, you return to the community to enjoy a delicious peasant lunch, rest, enjoy some artisan products made by the community and do some hiking in search of wildlife, then return to the vehicle and finish the tour.

El Rincón de Los Toros is the largest colored river in the Guaviare. The route of the day begins with this place located 8 km from the urban area of San José del Guaviare. It is a 20-minute drive and a 20-minute walk through the forest to this magnificent river of beautiful colors and crystal clear waters that run through the rocky bed of the Guiana shield.
After 2 and a half hours of enjoying this scenario, you return to the vehicle and continue for 25 minutes to a peasant farm where you will have lunch and then another 10 minutes by car to La Puerta de Orión, an imposing rock formation, an icon from the department of Guaviare, 12 meters high and 15 meters wide. To get to this site, it is necessary to walk for 20 minutes, passing through small natural savannahs, fragments of forest, and La Nevera cave.

The terms and conditions set forth in this agreement constitute the entire understanding and agreement between you the Traveler (“you” or “your”) and The Colombian Trip with respect to any and all bookings, reservations, trips, or transactions made with The Colombian Trip.
All Travelers must be 18 years of age or older to travel with The Colombian Trip unless they are accompanied by an adult.
Reserving Your Place in The Colombian Trip
Early reservations are highly recommended. Airlines often sell out their best fares and hotels can fill up months in advance, particularly the kind of smaller hotels that we generally work with. Each participant must also fill out, digitally sign, and submit a Booking Form (parents must digitally sign for children under 18). Prior to your departure, you will receive pre-departure information relevant to your trip and your destination, and an itinerary.
Payment Schedule and Pricing
We require the following payment schedule for our trips:*
At the time of reservation …………………. 20% of the trip per person non-refundable deposit*
90 days prior to departure or at time of invoicing……………… Balance
Any trips reserved 90 days or less prior to departure require payment in full upon reserving.
Payment schedules and deposit amounts for some trips, such as cruises, can vary. Additional payment schedules and requirements set by local operators take precedence over any of these schedules and requirements. All prices are in U.S. dollars and payments must be made in US dollars. Payment for air tickets is due at the time the tickets are issued.
A few of our tours are priced according to the number of passengers in your group. Staff, guides, and guests of The Colombian Trip are not included in the tier pricing count. Prices listed on The Colombian Trip website and printed materials are subject to change. Accommodations are based on double occupancy. Participants who specifically request single rooms (with no roommate) must pay a “single supplement.” The single supplement varies from trip to trip.
Cancellations and Refunds
Notice of cancellation of your trip must be received in writing by The Colombian Trip. If it becomes necessary for you to cancel your trip, the following fees will apply to canceled trips, computed as of the date of receipt of written cancellation notice:

We highly recommend that all clients purchase trip cancellation insurance. No partial refunds are possible for unused portions of a trip. The Colombian Trip is not responsible for any expenses incurred by trip members in preparing for a canceled trip (e.g., nonrefundable advance purchase air tickets, visa fees, inoculations, equipment, etc.) or any additional arrangements. If for any reason The Colombian Trip cancels your trip, an alternative trip of a similar standard will be offered to you. If this is not acceptable to you, then all amounts of money paid by you to The Colombian Trip will be refunded. Beyond the trip costs paid to us, The Colombian Trip is not responsible for any loss or damage that arises out of any cancellation for any reason whatsoever.
Documentation
U.S. citizens traveling outside the United States are required to carry documentation of U.S. citizenship, such as a passport. It is your responsibility to obtain proper documentation to travel, including but not limited to a passport and any required visas. Many countries require that your passport be valid for six months beyond the date of travel.
Trip Insurance
We strongly recommend that all of our travelers purchase travel insurance. Travel insurance can help cover everything from baggage loss, missed connections, and trip interruption, to a medical emergency, including medical evacuation costs. It also helps protect you in the event of loss of non-refundable trip deposits and payments that result from cancellation or trip interruption. Families traveling together, in particular, can benefit from traveler’s insurance, due to the high investment in the trip and the increased risk of one person’s illness resulting in the entire trip being canceled.
