Itinerary

Day 1
  • an easy hike through the beautiful

You will drive from Arusha to Londorossi Gate for registration before a short transfer brings you to the Lemosho trailhead. Your climb begins with an easy hike through the beautiful, misty rainforest, where you can spot unique birdlife and colobus monkeys before settling in at Big Tree Camp.

Day 2
  • The trail leaves the forest behind and steepens into the heath and moorland zones. You will cross a series of scenic ridges and a vast plateau, enjoying sweeping wilderness views as you bypass the Shira One site to set up camp at the higher Shira Two Camp.

Day 3
  • A major day for acclimatization

A major day for acclimatization. You will hike high into alpine desert territory to reach the massive Lava Tower at 4,630 meters for lunch, then descend low into the beautiful Barranco Valley, sleeping underneath the towering Great Barranco Wall.

Day 4
  • You will tackle the exciting scramble up the Great Barranco Wall right after breakfast, which rewards you with incredible views of Kibo's southern glaciers. From the top, you will traverse a series of rocky hills and valleys to reach Karanga Camp for a hot lunch.

Day 5
  • The trail climbs steadily through a stark, alpine landscape of rock and stone until it intersects with the Mweka descent route. You will arrive at Barafu Base Camp by early afternoon, giving you plenty of time to eat a hearty dinner, rest, and prep for the midnight summit.

Day 6
  • Wake up at midnight for your ultimate push over heavy volcanic scree in the freezing dark. You will reach the crater rim at Stella Point for sunrise, push on to Uhuru Peak (the roof of Africa!), then make a long descent back to Barafu for lunch before resting at Mweka Camp.

Day 7
  • Your final day features a gentle walk back through the lush rainforest down to Mweka Gate. After celebrating with your guides and porters at the traditional tipping and singing ceremony, you will receive your gold summit certificate and drive back to Arusha.
