Go on a Walk at Fort Kochi
Fort Kochi is the eye of the Kochi that passes you through a different period. Stroll around the place to acquaint with the history of an occupied land through the ages visiting Santa Cruz Basilica, Saint Francis Church constructed by Portuguese in the 16th century, Fort Immanuel, and the Dutch Cemetery.
Meander Through Mattancherry
Portuguese built and presented the Mattancherry Palace as a symbol of gratitude to Verra Kerala Varma, the Raja of Kochi in 1555. It’s also called the Dutch Palace as it was renovated in 1663 by the Dutch. This old multicultural surrounding in Fort Kochi is the home to many colonial structures. Mattancherry is a two-story palace embellished in a Portuguese architectural style. However, you’ll find traces of Kerala temple architecture in the wooden balconies and the sloping roof. Inside the palace, some of Indian’s best paintings and murals of the Hindu epics are showcased in the small Museum.
Toss a Fishing Net
Unquestionably, the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets are the most admired spectacle in Kochi. Zheng He, a Chinese explorer, brought the nets from Kublai Khan’s court, Chinese emperor in the 14th century. You’ll be invited to fresh morning catch seafood you’ve ever eaten. Enjoy your mouth-watering cooked fish at sunset.
