Mount Kilimanjaro National Park 6-Day Rongai Route Trek
Free Cancellation · Instant confirmation · Pickup available
Welcome to East Africa! Your private driver will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) right outside the arrivals terminal and transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon, your head guide will meet you in the lobby for a comprehensive pre-climb briefing and a detailed gear check to ensure you are fully prepared for the remote northern wilderness.
You start the morning with a scenic drive around the eastern base of the mountain to the remote Nalemuru Gate near the Kenyan border. After registration, you begin your hike on a small, winding path that passes through fields of maize and potatoes before entering a quiet, beautiful pine forest. Keep an eye out for rare black-and-white colobus monkeys as you arrive at Simba Camp for your first night under the stars.
Today features a steady, uphill climb through open heather and moorland. The trail is beautifully uncrowded and offers expansive, sweeping views across the Kenyan plains below. As you approach the Second Cave Camp, the jagged volcanic spires of Mawenzi Peak begin to frame the horizon, offering a stunning backdrop for your evening camp.
You break away from the lower moorland trails today and head directly into the stark, otherworldly alpine desert. The path takes you across "The Saddle"—the massive, windswept high-altitude plateau that links the dramatic peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. The terrain is relatively flat but the air is noticeably thinner. You will arrive at Kibo Camp, built right at the foot of Kibo's crater wall, for an early dinner and sleep ahead of the midnight summit push.
