The Church of Panagia Megalochari
The Panagia Megalochari church, also known as the Megalochari of Tinos or Our Lady of Tinos, sits on a hill above Chora and is famous worldwide as a holy place of spiritual pilgrimage and divine worship. The term Megalochari refers to the Virgin Mary, meaning “with all graces.” The sacred Panagia Megalpchari was built where the Virgin Mary’s magical icon was discovered in the ruins of St. John on Sep. 30, 1823.
The Archaeological Museum of Tinos
The Archaeological Museum was constructed in the 1960s on the main road of Chora. The architectural structure kept intact, houses the nostalgic and numerous artifacts dating back to the Prehistoric era. The marble sundial of Andronicus is one of the most prominent relics of the site belonging to the 1st century BC.
Volax
Volax village is located 6 kilometers away from Tinos, surrounded by many hills. Volax, emerged by uncommon geological phenomena a few centuries ago, is mainly famous for its stunning sceneries, large amounts of round granite rocks of all size and shapes surrounding the village created. Despite the small area, you’ll find several shops and taverns in the town. Basketry is the most valuable art in this place. Enjoy nature and communicating with locals warmly welcome tourists.
Panormos Port
Located 30 kilometers north of Tinos, Panormos is a stunning port where you’ll find delicious and mouthwatering fresh seafood at its restaurants. Good news for those interested in visiting the wild beaches and bays: take a walk toward Rohar Beach in the south and Agia Thalassa and Kavalargos in the north.
Tarambados Village
One of the must-see attractions in Tinos is numerous dovecotes making the unique scenery of the area. It’s worth noting that the dovecotes are not the simple wooden building you see anywhere but are genuine works of art made by Tinos residents. Tarambados Village is a place where you’ll find many beautiful and well-preserved dovecotes. In the local beliefs, the buildings are a symbol of wealth and power.
Loutra Village
It’s one of the oldest villages in Tinos, sitting 8 kilometers away in the heart of nature. For many years, Loutra housed monks and nuns and served as an elementary and secondary school for the affluent families’ girls from all over Greece until 1980. The village houses a Monastery, constructed in 1840, which is now a traditional Museum.
