Mount Kilimanjaro 6-Day Marangu Route Trek with Hut Accommodation
Free Cancellation · Instant confirmation · Pickup available
Welcome to East Africa! Your private driver will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) right outside the arrivals terminal and transfer you to your hotel. In the late afternoon, your head guide will meet you in the lobby for a comprehensive pre-climb briefing and a thorough gear check to ensure you are fully prepared for the mountain.
Drive to the historic Marangu Gate for park registration. From there, you will hike up a well-maintained trail through a dense, emerald rainforest canopy. Keep your eyes open for blue monkeys before arriving at the Mandara Huts, where you will sleep in cozy wooden A-frame cabins equipped with solar lighting.
You break out of the rainforest early this morning into the vast, open moorland zone. The path leads through rolling hills covered in giant heaths and unique alpine shrubs. As you gain altitude, spectacular views of Kibo Peak begin to clear ahead. You will arrive at the bustling Horombo Hut village, which will be your base for the next two nights.
The Critical Acclimatization Day. To help your body adjust to the thinning air, you will take a scenic hike up toward the jagged volcanic peaks of the Mawenzi Ridge, stopping at the striking Zebra Rocks. After a hot lunch, you will descend back to Horombo Hut for a relaxed afternoon of rest and hydration.
You leave the last bits of vegetation behind today as you cross the vast, stark plain known as "The Saddle"—a high-altitude alpine desert that connects the peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. You will arrive at Kibo Hut, a stone barracks built right at the foot of Kibo's crater wall, where you will eat an early dinner and sleep ahead of the midnight summit push.
Summit Day. Wake up at midnight for hot tea before stepping out into the freezing dark. Moving pole pole (slowly), you will ascend the steep, loose volcanic scree switchbacks. You will hit Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) just as the sun rises, then continue another hour along the snow-covered crater rim to Uhuru Peak—the Roof of Africa! Afterward, you will descend back to Kibo Hut for a quick rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut to sleep.
A long, steady downhill walk brings you back through the forest zone to Marangu Gate. Here, you will gather with your crew for the traditional tipping ceremony and songs, receive your official gold summit certificate, and take a private vehicle back to your hotel for a celebratory hot shower.
Enjoy a relaxing breakfast at the hotel. Spend your morning resting, swimming, or exploring the local markets for souvenirs. Your private driver will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you back to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in time for your flight home.
