Itinerary

Day 1

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

  • Depart Moshi early for the Kilimanjaro National Park Marangu Gate to complete mandatory registration. Begin your trek with a steady climb through a lush, dense montane rainforest teeming with vibrant birdlife and blue monkeys. After a picnic lunch along the trail, arrive at Mandara Hut for dinner and your first night in the mountain's iconic wooden A-frame cabins.

Day 2

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

  • Leave the forest canopy behind as the trail opens up into the striking, expansive heather and moorland zones. You will trek past giant groundsels and lobelias while enjoying stunning, panoramic views of the Mawenzi and Kibo volcanic peaks. Arrive at the bustling Horombo Hut village in the afternoon to settle in and acclimatize to the higher altitude.

Day 3

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Ascend into the desolate, wind-swept alpine desert landscape, crossing the barren lunar terrain of the "Saddle" that connects Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Walking at a slow, measured pace, you will navigate the thin air to reach the rocky Kibo Hut camp. Enjoy an early dinner and head straight to sleep to rest up for the midnight summit push.

Day 4

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (Summit) down to Horombo Hut

  • Wake up at midnight for your intense summit attempt, climbing steep volcanic scree under the stars up to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim. From there, continue along the snowy edge to reach Uhuru Peak, the roof of Africa at 5,895 meters, just as the sun rises. Celebrate your achievement, capture photos, and then begin the long descent back down to Horombo Hut for a well-deserved night's rest.

Day 5

Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Moshi

  • Complete your final descent through the moorland and rainforest zones, enjoying a lively celebration and tipping ceremony with your dedicated mountain guides, chefs, and porters. Arrive back at the Marangu Gate to receive your official gold summit certificates before boarding your safari vehicle for the return drive to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
