Itinerary
Day 1 Menchugang to Schonath via Dhur Village (3,450m)

Start the trek from Menchugang and visit Dhur Village, the largest in Bumthang, home to both farmers and nomads. Explore local culture and dialects, and visit a traditional water-powered flour mill. Trek uphill through blue pine forests to reach Schonath, known for its peaceful hemlock and juniper woods — and the echoing calls of owls at night.

Day 2 Schonath to Kitiphu Ridge via Drangela Pass (3,870m)

Hike through pristine forests of spruce, fir, and blooming rhododendrons (in spring) to Drangela Pass (3,600m). Continue the ascent to Kitiphu Ridge, where on clear days you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas, including Bhutan’s highest peak, Gangkar Puensum.

Day 3 Kitiphu Ridge to Tharpaling – Return to Thimphu

Catch a beautiful sunrise before descending to Tharpaling Monastery, visiting historic sites like Chuedak Monastery, which houses rare Avalokiteshvara statues. Follow the scenic Royal Heritage Trail, ending with a stunning view of Jakar Dzong. After the trek, drive back to Thimphu.
