Itinerary

Meet at 4 Seasons Hostel

Day 1

  • Upon arrival at Biratnagar Airport, meet your naturalist guide and enjoy a scenic drive through the fertile Terai plains to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Camp.

    After lunch and an orientation about the reserve, begin your first birdwatching excursion through nearby wetlands, grasslands, and riverbanks. This gentle introduction offers excellent opportunities to observe kingfishers, storks, egrets, herons, ibises, jacanas, and numerous waterfowl.

    As evening approaches, enjoy spectacular sunset views over the Sapta Koshi River while listening to the calls of hundreds of birds returning to their roosting sites.

Day 2

Full-Day River Safari & Jeep Safari

  • Rise before sunrise when bird activity reaches its peak. After breakfast, embark on a relaxing river safari along the Sapta Koshi River. Quietly drifting through the wetlands allows close observation of waterbirds without disturbing their natural behavior.

    Watch kingfishers diving for fish, cormorants drying their wings, flocks of ducks feeding in shallow waters, and perhaps even the elusive Gangetic River dolphin surfacing nearby.

    Following a riverside picnic lunch, continue with an exciting jeep safari into the reserve's grasslands and floodplain forests. Search for wild water buffalo, nilgai, deer, jackals, crocodiles, and additional birdlife before visiting the famous Koshi Barrage.

    Return to camp for dinner.

Day 3

Dedicated Birdwatching Expedition

  • Today is devoted entirely to birdwatching. Visit several habitats, including wetlands, marshes, oxbow lakes, sandbanks, and grasslands to maximize species diversity. Depending on the season, your guide selects the most productive birding sites.

    Bird photographers will enjoy excellent lighting during the early morning and late afternoon, while experienced birders can search for rarities and migratory visitors.

    During the afternoon, visit a nearby Tharu village to learn about traditional lifestyles that have coexisted harmoniously with the reserve for generations.

    After dinner, enjoy a presentation by your guide about Koshi Tappu's ecology, conservation efforts, and migratory bird routes.
