Itinerary

Stop 1

Your day begins with a pickup directly from your hotel or riad in Marrakech — if your accommodation is inside the medina and vehicles cannot access it, we will arrange a meeting point just a short walk away. Your dedicated local driver and tour companion will take you south into the High Atlas Mountains — away from the tourist trails and into the hidden valleys, remote villages and ancient Berber pathways that most visitors to Morocco never find.

This is not a standard day trip. This is a journey into the real Morocco — the Morocco of small farming communities where life has continued at the same rhythm for generations, where women still carry water from mountain springs and men tend terraced fields of barley and vegetables on hillsides that look out over valleys of extraordinary beauty. Your companion has deep roots in this region and will take you to places and introduce you to people that no guidebook has ever mentioned.

The drive into the Atlas takes approximately one hour, rising through increasingly dramatic mountain scenery as the city falls away behind you and the peaks close in on either side. Your companion will share stories of the region as you drive — the history of the Amazigh people, the significance of the landscape in Berber culture and the changes that have transformed mountain life over recent decades.

On arrival in the mountains your companion will guide you on foot along ancient Berber trails between villages — paths worn smooth by centuries of use, connecting communities that have traded, married and celebrated together since long before Morocco was Morocco. You will walk through terraced gardens and walnut groves, cross rivers on stone bridges, pass through narrow mountain passes with views that stretch for miles in every direction and arrive in villages where you will be welcomed with the extraordinary warmth and hospitality that defines Berber culture.

At one of the villages your companion will arrange a traditional home-cooked Berber lunch with a local family — a meal of freshly made bread, tagine cooked over an open fire, seasonal vegetables from the garden and glasses of sweet mint tea. It is the kind of meal that money alone cannot buy — an act of genuine generosity and a window into a way of life that is both ancient and completely alive.

After lunch you continue the trail to further viewpoints and villages before your companion drives you back to Marrakech in the late afternoon, arriving in the early evening.
