Itinerary
Start your journey from Virpazar
Start your boat adventure in Virpazar, the townlet along the main road connecting Bar and Podgorica.
Board a comfortable Kingfisher boat and start your Lake Skadar tour cruising through channels overgrown in reeds and willows.
The view unfolds
Admire the view of Island Vranjina in front of you, aiming at the sky with its two peaks. On your right, glimpse the Albanian Alps bordering Lake Skadar. Proceed to the left, under the nearby bridge.
The Lesendro Fort is next
Glide through the meadows of water chestnuts and discover the centuries-old fortress Lesendro.
This little tower is from 1843. and it served as a military outpost. It is often called the ''Key to Lake Skadar'' as it resembles one from a bird's view.
Morača River: the bird reserve
Next, continue to where Lake Skadar meets its largest tributary, the river Morača - a perfect place for spotting rare bird species. Admire their sound and beauty as you glide through the bird reserve.
Thousands of water lillies
The stunning view awaits just around the corner - thousands of floating, dark-green water lillie leaves and their white and yellow flowers. Marvel at this beautiful sight and try to spot some baby bird nests.
Picturesque fjord Pavlova Strana
Sights that follow will satisfy your traveller’s thirst equally. Sail along the picturesque fjord Pavlova strana and discover Rijeka Crnojevića, a small fishing village.
Visit Rijeka, the hidden pearl of Lake Skadar
Explore this beautiful spot, situated only a few kilometres from the historical capital of Cetinje.
The old stone bridge, named after Prince Danilo, will be the first to welcome you, next to the one-story building built on the left shore of the river. You can’t overlook it – it lies at the entrance of this beautiful townlet, and although built in the 15th century, it still looks impressive.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Rijeka Crnojevića was the largest Montenegrin port and the leading trade centre. Today, this town exudes the perfect atmosphere for experiencing the Montenegrin mentality – a historically significant place filled with authentic architecture and beautiful nature.
The return journey
After exploring the village, it’s time to go back. In the meantime, be sure to bring your swimsuit! Take the opportunity and enjoy the refreshing waters of Lake Skadar.
