🏁 Tour Itinerary: Bike in Nothern Montenegro

Day 1: Arrival at Montenegro

Welcome at the airport (Podgorica or Tivat) or port (Kotor/Bar/Tivat) – Transfer to Kolašin – Check-in accommodation in Kolašin – Overnight.

Day 2: Biking Tour (B, L, D)

Route: Kolašin – Donje (Lower) Lipovo – Gornje (Upper) Lipovo – Lipovo serpentine – bend Vratlo – Sinjajevina plateau – Pašino field – Zminičko Lake.

We start the cycling ride towards Lipovo – a village known for its green forests and cold water springs, so it is certain that you cannot stay thirsty in this village. You will enjoy a mountain bike tour that offers a great view of a large number of katuns and many peaks of Sinjajevina. Before the Vratlo pass (1737 m above sea level), the road leads along serpentines which help to overcome the large altitude difference between the end of the Lipovska valley (1200 m above sea level) and the Sinjavina plateau (1700 m above sea level). With a fantastic view, we come out on the Vratlo bend, from where the cycling measurement through the katuns and landscapes begins. Only a few kilometers cycling ride from the village of Njegovuđa in Žabljak, there is one of the 18 lakes in the Durmitor region, Zminičko lake. Get ready for a fascinating view of this gem of nature, and if the weather allows, to swim in it at an impressive 1286 meters above sea level, which attracts a large number of nature lovers to this lake. The lake, which gets its water from the spring melting of abundant snow from the surrounding mountains, is lulled into a bay, surrounded by coniferous forests, which trees are reflected in the calm water of the lake, giving it a color you can hardly see anywhere else. Who does not want to be in a bigger crowd by the lake, can enjoy a lunch package or refreshment in the beautiful ambiance and courtyard of the church of St. Georgije in Zminica. In local households near Zminičko lake, we will have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Biking Tour (Zminičko lake – Njegovuđa village – Žabljak) (B)

Day for approx. 1-hour bike ride through Njegovuđa village towards Žabljak Municipality.

Zabljak is the highest city in the Balkans. It is located at 1456m above sea level. Located in the center of the giant mountains Durmitor, Zabljak is the most desirable destination for winter tourism. Nearby is the deepest canyon in Europe, the magnificent canyon of the Tara River. This small town in the north of Montenegro is surrounded by numerous lakes and a large number of mountain peaks. Due to the natural beauties that spring up at every step, Žabljak attracts a large number of tourists during the summer. The knowledge that Durmitor, outside the winter seasons, is covered with 1500 species of different plants, is a sufficient reason to visit this town. Arrival at Žabljak. Check-in accommodation. Free time. Overnight stay.

Day 4: Durmitor Ring Biking Tour (B, L)

Route: Žabljak – Momčilov grad – Štuoc – Mala Crna Gora – Sušica – Nedajno – Trsa – Prutaš – Sedlo – Savin kuk – Žabljak – Overnight in Žabljak.

Duration: 7 – 9 hours depending on your readiness and breaks

We start the day with a mountain cycling tour where you will enjoy the beauty of the view, untouched nature, and authentic villages where the way of life has remained almost unchanged for hundreds of years.

From Žabljak, we take a ride through Pitomina to Momčilov grad and the Štuoc viewpoint. We continue downhill to the village of Mala Crna Gora and the Sušica canyon. Taking a break and replenishment water reserves. Rise to the village of Nedajno, from where you can see Mala Crna Gora and the Sušica canyon from the viewpoint. Then, towards the village of Trsa. This part of the road is classified as easy, then medium and then ascent and descent. Completely new views of the plateaus and pastures among which Prutaš dominates, and then after the ascent, a view of Sedlena beam, which dominates this part of the road. After a more demanding ascent, descent towards Žabljak, passage through the Pošćenski area to the Savin Kuk ski resort, and arrival at the starting point.

Day 5: Žabljak – Šavnik – Bijela – Krnovo – Krnovska plateau – Windmill park – Vučje (B, L, D)

From Žabljak, we head towards Šavnik, down the highway. We will pass through Šavnik serpentines. We continue through the larger villages of Kruševica and Milojevići to the village of Bijela, which is some 10 km away from Kruševica. This village bears the epithet of the most beautiful in Montenegro, with many natural beauties, the enchanting waterfall Crnjak, a monument dedicated to the victims of NOR, a memorial bridge made in honor of the heroes of the Battle of Mojkovac. At the waterfall itself, which is one of the main sources of the river Bijela, are the remains of the famous mill Bećirović. We continue driving through the Kruševac serpentines. After the great ascent, we will see windmills in front of us and realize that we are on the Krnovska plateau. Krnovo is a mountainous area northeast of Niksic, which together with Lukavica forms a plateau, known among mountaineers and nature lovers as Montenegrin Tibet! The average height of this plateau is about 1500 meters above sea level. Widely famous for its numerous katuns and flocks of sheep in the past… Today, the katuns is deserted, only a small number of cattle breeders, mountaineers, and mountain biking enthusiasts enjoy its fairytale landscapes. Drive to the famous ski center Vučje. Break. Overnight stay. Optional – Visit Nikšić city (20 km far) and sightseeing in the city.

Day 6: Vučje – Kapetanovo lake – Velje Duboko – Međuriječje – The End of Biking Tour (B ,L)

Difficulty: demanding and moderate
Elevation: approx. 1970 m
Duration:  8 – 10 – 12 hours depending on the readiness and breaks
Ground: asphalt – macadam – land
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch package.
Overnight: Podgorica

Drive to Kapetanovo Lake. Like many lakes in Montenegro, this lake was created as a result of glacial activities, although there are legends about its origin and name that circulate among the people of Lukavica and surrounding places. The clear, green color of the water and the reflection of the limestone rocks in it entice the sighs of observers and become a favorite camping place for mountaineers and fishermen. Break. After the break, cycling through the village of Vejle Duboko towards Međuriječje where it is the endpoint of this cycling tour.

Transfer to Podgorica. Overnight.
