Itinerary

Admire the Lion of Amfipolis (duration 10 minutes)

The first stop is the “Lion of Amfipolis”. The monument was originally located on the top of the Great Tomb at Amphipolis and at some time in the past was moved to its current location, several km. away from the Tomb site.

Next destination

Next destination is the Archaeological site of Philippi – UNESCO World Heritage Site. The ancient city was found by Alexander’s the Great father - Philip II, where you shall visit the Basilica, the theatre, the Roman Forum, the cell where Apostle Paul was imprisoned but also the Octagon Church- the first Chirstian church of Europe.

Baptistery of Saint Lydia

You visit the Baptistery of Saint Lydia, located in a peaceful natural setting by the river Zygaktis. It is dedicated to the first woman in Europe to be baptized by Apostle Paul, symbolizing the beginning of Christianity in Europe. A spiritually significant stop that complements the visit to Philippi.

Visit Kavala City (duration 2 hours)

You discover Kavala city where for centuries Byzantines, Ottomans, Jews, merchants, tobacco workers, refugees and intellectuals mingled and prospered.
