Itinerary

Day 1

Delhi Arrival & Sightseeing

  • Your tour begins with your arrival in the capital. Once you have checked into your hotel, spend the afternoon exploring the wide, tree-lined boulevards and historic landmarks of New Delhi. India Gate: Begin your exploration at this majestic, 42-meter-tall war memorial archway centered in the heart of the capital. Designed to honor soldiers of the British Indian Army, it serves as a central symbol of modern Delhi. The extensive lawns surrounding the structure come alive in the late afternoon, filled with street vendors and locals enjoying the evening breeze. A short drive past the nearby Rashtrapati Bhavan (President's House) and Parliament House provides a clear picture of India's political epicenter.

Humayun’s Tomb: Follow your drive with a visit to this elegant, 16th-century red sandstone tomb, widely recognized as a turning point in Mughal architecture. Built for the second Mughal Emperor, it is celebrated as the primary design inspiration for the Taj Mahal. Stroll through the pristine Charbagh (symmetrical four-quadrant Persian gardens) that envelope the massive mausoleum.

Day 2

Delhi Full Day Sightseeing

  • Dedicate your second day to the historic, chaotic, and fascinating walled city of Old Delhi, known historically as Shahjahanabad. Jama Masjid: Start your morning early at this striking 17th-century house of worship, which stands as one of the largest mosques in India. Constructed out of alternating vertical strips of red sandstone and pure white marble, its massive courtyard can accommodate up to 25,000 people.

Chandni Chowk: Directly outside the mosque gates, dive into this historic marketplace, which has operated continuously since the Mughal era. Hiring a traditional cycle-rickshaw is highly recommended to safely navigate the dense, bustling sensory maze of narrow market lanes famous for wholesale spices, wedding textiles, and silver jewelry.

Red Fort: Conclude your Old Delhi loop right down the street at this imposing sandstone fortress complex, the royal seat of the Mughal Empire for two centuries. Its massive, octagonal fortification walls contain beautiful audience halls, marble palaces, and historic museums. Photographing the grand Lahore Gate from the outer esplanade provides one of the city's most recognizable backdrops.

Day 3

Delhi to Agra

  • Spend your morning visiting a soaring medieval complex in South Delhi before embarking on a smooth 3-to-4-hour drive down the Yamuna Expressway to Agra. Qutb Minar: Visit this breathtaking, 73-meter-tall five-story brick minaret before you officially depart the capital city limits. Erected starting in 1193, the tower features intricate geometric carvings and chiseled calligraphic inscriptions. The complex contains ruins of some of the subcontinent's earliest surviving mosques, alongside the iconic, rust-resistant 4th-century Iron Pillar.

Agra Fort: Upon arriving in Agra and checking into your hotel, spend your late afternoon exploring this vast, walled palatial city. Serving as the seat of government before the capital shifted to Delhi, it boasts magnificent structures like the Jahangiri Mahal and Khas Mahal. The fort's marble pavilions offer a spectacular vantage point overlooking the Yamuna River toward the distant Taj Mahal.

Day 4

Agra to Delhi Drop

  • Make the absolute most of your final day by planning around the changing light of the morning. Taj Mahal: Arrive early for a sunrise tour of this pristine white marble mausoleum, Shah Jahan's enduring monument to his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Viewing the structure at dawn allows you to witness the translucent marble subtly change hues from soft pink to radiant white under the early sun. Entering right when the gates open helps you beat the heaviest crowds and heat, offering the best conditions for iconic photos.
