Yala National Park is a national park in Sri Lanka. The reserve covers 979 km², although only the original 141 km² are open to the public. It was established in 1894 as a Game Sanctuary. Much of the reserve is parkland, but it also contains jungle, beaches, freshwater lakes and rivers and scrubland. The latter zone is punctuated with enormous rocky outcrops. The range of habitats give rise to a good range of wildlife. The Yala National Park Safari Tour from Ella brings you the great opportunity of experiencing a soothing village environment along with the rich cultural composition of Yala.

Exploring Yala National Park was an unforgettable experience that truly showcased Sri Lanka’s wildlife wonders. The drive from Galle was a bit bumpy, but my excitement grew as I spotted vibrant local scenery along the way. Once in the park, I was thrilled to see elephants and leopards in their natural habitat, though I did wish for a bit more time to explore some of the hidden trails.

We spent an exhilarating day exploring the wildlife wonders that this serene destination has to offer. A highlight was when we encountered a majestic elephant bathing in a nearby waterhole; it was truly a breathtaking moment that felt like a scene out of a nature documentary. The only drawback was the long drive from our hotel, which made the early start a bit challenging, but the experience more than made up for it.
