On the last day of June, the State Department pf the U.S. has announced its plan to make traveling for LGBTQ or transgender people. Travelers don’t need to provide medical certification to change their gender marker, and they can self-select on the appropriate forms.
If travelers already have passports, they can request a new passport with a different gender marker, and the new applicants can choose their marker when applying for their passport.
The State Department is now working on a gender marker for intersex, nonbinary, and others who are not classified in the traditional gender rules. The department points out that this process is complex and takes time.
The process takes time, as mentioned. However, it’s great news for the LGBTQ community despite the time consuming.
