Begin your day with a hearty breakfast before setting out on your self-guided exploration of Mount Etna. Drive to one of the starting points, such as Rifugio Sapienza or Piano Provenzana, where you can follow marked trails leading up the mountainside. As you ascend, take in the dramatic landscapes shaped by centuries of eruptions, from ancient lava flows to more recent volcanic activity. We suggest spending some hours at the beautiful beaches of “Fontane Bianche” or “Arenella”, both with spectacular white sand and crystalline water. For sunset we suggest reaching Marzamemi, the old fishing village. The village is washed by the Ionian Sea and the level is lower than the sea. Enjoy an aperitif or dinner there with unspoiled views of small boats bobbing in the water.
