Shree Gha Chaitya

Shree Gha Chaitya or Kathesimbhu, is a miniature replica of the iconic Swayambhunath Stupa. Built around 1650 AD, it serves as a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site in Kathmandu.

The stupa is surrounded by smaller chaityas, statues, inscriptions, and an ancient cloister resembling a Tibetan monastery. A statue of Avalokiteshvara is prominently placed before the stupa. For those unable to visit the main Swayambhunath, this site offers a meaningful alternative. The spire’s 13 steps symbolize the 13 stages to reach Nirvana, adding spiritual depth to the experience.
