Currency & Money Tips
Money
The currency in Italy is euro in denominations of €500, €200, €100, €50, €20, €10, and €5 with coins in €2, €1 as well as 50, 20, 10, five, two cents, and one cent.
ATMs
ATMs are widely available around the country, but in some small shops or rural areas, you need some cash. They accept major cards, including Visa, MasterCard, Cirrus, and Maestro. Transaction fees might be between 1% to 3%. If an ATM rejects your card, don’t try again with the same ATM and try another one.
Credit Cards

Bistecca alla Fiorentina
If you are looking for a huge steak and are in Tuscany, look for the famous Bistecca Alla Fiorentina, AKA Bistecca Fiorentina. These T-bone steaks are made with the tasty meat of the Chianina cattle. Wi-Fi in Italy is usually slow and unreliable, so it’s a good idea to buy a prepaid SIM card. Lycamobile, Tim, Vodafone, or W3 are the best companies, but Lycamobile is more recommended for tourists because it’s cheap and uses the widespread Vodafone network. However, if you need a large amount of data, it’s better to use Tim, Vodafone, or W3.
Where to buy it?
You can easily find the official sellers of the companies on the streets. Buying SIM card in the airport is not recommended as the tourist SIM cards sold there is much more costly than the sellers inside the cities.
