Denmark, officially the Kingdom of Denmark, is a Nordic country on the north side of Europe. This is one of the most amazing countries you can find worldwide with eye-catching landscapes, remarkable architecture, kind people, mouthwatering cuisine, and many other elements that make this European country one of the most visited destinations around the globe.

Why Visiting Denmark?

Denmark is one of the most beautiful countries globally, which is small and convenient destination for all travelers in the world. The Nordic country is known for the architecture, fashion, museums, palaces, castles, galleries, etc. In fact, finding reasons for visiting Denmark is one of the easiest jobs in the world. However, let’s take a look at the most important reasons for visiting this European country.

Denmark is a paradise for art and museum lovers. There are numerous museums and art galleries around Denmark of different ages and eras, such as Vikings and the Danish Golden Age. The National Gallery of Denmark, The ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Kunsten Museum of Modern Art, and Thorvaldsens Museum are some of the most exquisite galleries in the country.

Denmark is famous for its castles and palaces. The palaces and castles are used to be the residents of the Danish Royal Families. Amalienborg Palace, Frederiksborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace, and Rosenborg Castle are among the highlights.

Amazing foods and drinks should be another important reason for visiting Denmark. The Danish foods are mostly driven by local ingredients and products. Among them, Rød pølse (red sausage), Smørrebrød (open sandwich), Durum shawarma, Falafel, Frikadeller (Danish meat balls), Fiskefrikadeller (fish chop), salmon, cod dishes, etc. are highlighted. Beers in Denmark are also very popular, and you can drink one of the bests in your life here.

Nightlife in Denmark is remarkable. Various festivals, especially in summer, such as NorthSide in Aarhus, Nibe Festival in northern Jutland, and Copenhell Festival in Copenhagen, can amaze any visitor worldwide. Nightclubs, jazz bars, and many other places are also available in Denmark, helping you have a great nightlife.

When it comes to nature, Denmark is fabulous! Fantastic beaches such as Søndervig, Tisvildeleje, Blåvand, Blokhus, and Hornbæk as well as exceptional landscapes like Råbjerg Mile, Skagen, Rubjerg Knot, Møns Klint, Rold Forest, Moaning Bay, Anholt, etc. make a memorable trip for you!

There are many other reasons for visiting Denmark as well, such as fashion, shopping, hygge, etc. However, I can name too many other reasons for having a trip to Denmark. Therefore, you must put Denmark on your bucket list!

The only thing that everyone should do in Denmark is to carry a good camera when visiting the top places. The architecture is something unique in Denmark that must be seen and recorded as unforgettable pieces of the country. And other than a camera, be sure to read about this country to enjoy it further. For example, read about the story of the Little Mermaid before visiting its statue in Copenhagen.

Have Fun in Any Way You Like at Tivoli Gardens of Copenhagen

The second one of the top things to do in Denmark is also in Copenhagen, which is going to the Tivoli Gardens. What makes the visit to Tivoli Gardens stand out is the calm and relaxing sensation of this part of the capital. While the Tivoli Gardens is an enjoyable place for a walk and seeing some beauty, it is also fun and exciting. There are fun rides and games, cafés, restaurants, and bars. In short, this place is suitable for all age groups and tastes.

Besides relaxing or having fun, there is also the marvelous architecture of the buildings in Tivoli Gardens. This place has been a great place in Copenhagen since 1843, and its beautiful design has even inspired that of the famous Disney Theme Park!

But it is also famous for being a top place for wading and swimming. This Northernmost point of the country is just north of Jutland town, with only a few thousand inhabitants. Make certain to visit this beach, but expect to see lots of other people since this area is quite known and famous among travelers.

Learn about Norse Mythology

It is unwise to travel to Denmark and not learn about Norse Mythology. The folklore and other elements of the Norse culture along with their mythology, are spread all over the country. A rather famous site for learning about them and witnessing some strange rock formations is perhaps the Troll Church in Nibe. There are numerous other places to discover Norse Mythology, but Troll Church would be the best as there is only one explanation about its existence. The Trolls did it!

Smørrebrød

Smørrebrød is an open-face sandwich of the older days of Denmark. It was originally a simple food for workers and farmers traditionally seen as lunch. Smørrebrød is somehow a national dish and a very traditional one that has evolved into numerous new forms. The original version of Smørrebrød is made with rye bread (rugbrød), fish or shrimps, cheese, and vegetables. The rye bread is still the same as before, but for the fish, cheese, and vegetables, the combinations have no limits and can be according to your taste. Oddly enough, Smørrebrød can also be the cheapest meal of your time in Denmark or the most expensive one in a luxurious restaurant.

Flæskesteg

Another national dish of Denmark, which is also an important part of their cuisine, is the Flæskesteg which is roasted pork. Flæskesteg is the one and the only thing you should eat if you visit the country during Christmas. If not, keep in mind that lots of people love Flæskesteg and it may be difficult to find but also very tasty. To make Flæskesteg, several slices are made on pork while keeping it mostly intact. The empty space between the slices is filled with spice and sometimes a touch of clover and bay leaves.

What can make Frikadeller an even more enjoyable experience is using it as a topping for Smørrebrød.

Rugbrød

Rugbrød or rye bread is a special and traditional part of Danish cuisine, as you have already read in our number one food on this list. Rugbrød is very rich with the seeds of several plants but strangely with very little oil. Whenever you decide to eat anything with bread, try it with Denmark’s Rugbrød as the healthiest alternative. This rich and nutritious bread has almost zero oils, but when you add a bit of butter to it, it becomes magically tasty.
