🏁 Tour Itinerary: Cambodia Active Holidays

Day 1: Phnom Penh – Evening Food Tour (D)

Suo Sdei! Welcome to Cambodia. You will be met at the airport and taken to the hotel. Your time is at your own leisure until 5 pm when your guide will arrive in a tuk-tuk for a food-focused tour of the city. The first stop of the evening is a lively bar on Sisowath Quay. Find a spot on the balcony and your guide will leave you to enjoy a cocktail with views across the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers as the sunsets.
Rejoin your guide for a rather different experience – head down to the river, where roadside stalls sell a variety of edible bugs, which you will have the opportunity to try. Your guide will be on hand to decipher the surprisingly tasty offerings. Continue by tuk-tuk to the Russian Market, where the food stalls draw local diners with typical Khmer food such as Banh Chheu, and beef skewers. Choose what you fancy, pull up a plastic stool alongside the locals, and soak up the atmosphere. Your final food stop for the evening will be freshly barbecued seafood, then you will return to your hotel.

🏚️ Hotel Option: Frangipani Palace Hotel or similar.

Day 2: Phnom Penh Bike Tour (B, L)

Start your adventure on the mountain bike, crossing the river by local boat, and then riding through the villages on an island in the Mekong River. The island is famous for silk weaving, agriculture, and aquaculture. Stop to see locals at work in the village and enjoy cycling on quiet roads through orchards and along rice paddies. Then return to Phnom Penh in the afternoon for lunch. Then, your guide will take you to explore Phnom Penh remains a living relic of the country’s past struggles. The Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek tell the story of the tragic legacy of the Khmer Rouge. The former school of Tuol Sleng served as a Khmer Rouge torture center, and it’s estimated that more than 20,000 people were held and tortured here. The Killing Fields of Choeung Ek are home to a stupa made up of some 8,000 human skulls, marking the infamous site. This was the execution ground for the torture victims of Tuol Sleng, and standing in this peaceful setting it’s almost unthinkable to imagine that to date nearly 9,000 corpses have been exhumed from the area. Perhaps visit Wat Phnom, the temple that gave rise to the foundation of the city in the 15th century, or the Royal Palace complex’s Silver Pagoda, the most sacred temple in the country.

🏚️ Hotel Option: Frangipani Palace Hotel or similar.

First of all, I would like to thanks to the professionalism and kindness of this tour operator in Cambodia. The truth is that they have managed to make it a perfect trip, taking care of the details and very proactively arranged any program change. We have known a country and a culture very different from the southern one. Nature and temples are the most significant in the country. With our local guide, everything has been perfect. At all times they have been watching us, knowing where we were and where we were going. Great mention to Angkor Wat and the beach of Kep & Kampot. Spectacular place in the jungle, with incredible and wonderful beaches.

This tour was the highlight of my trip to Cambodia! I was apprehensive having not been on a bike in many years but I needn’t have been. My guide George (Sokvuth) was very attentive and made sure we were okay and we went at our own pace. The temples on day one were beautiful, we had a different guide for day one, Bo, who was very knowledgeable about the history of the temples. Day two George took us to Kulen National park and waterfalls which was absolutely stunning. Well worth the trek up, there’s a few stairs to get up but George waited patiently for me and I never felt rushed! A few beers on a boat at sunset on day 3 was the perfect way to finish the tour! This tour was a good way to see Siem Reap away from all the tourists. You see all the beautiful countryside and local villages. The food was great everyday, and the dried banana snacks were amazing! This tour is also available in 5 days which I wish I had done as I didn’t want the tour to end! Thank you to all the lovely people at Siem Reaper for an amazing few days!
