🏁 Tour Itinerary: Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek
Day 1 – Kathmandu Arrival
The first day of your adventure trip to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp starts with your arrival to Kathmandu. Our company representative will welcome you at the airport on your arrival. He will transfer you to the hotel where you can find an easy time to relax after checking in. We will meet you in the evening at the hotel to talk about the trip in detail. Any questions you may have regarding your trip will be discussed so that you are well-prepared for the trip.
Day 2 – Sightseeing Tour in Kathmandu (B)
We will take an acclimatization day in Kathmandu today where we spend time exploring the cultural heritage sites in the valley. The sightseeing tour that starts after breakfast takes you to four of the amazing cultural heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley.
Exploring Swoyambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, and Boudhanath will give you an incredible experience of ancient, medieval, and modern cultural, historical, and spiritual wonders. You will see and experience the lifestyle in Kathmandu during the tour. The tour will take pretty much of our day-to-day. We will return back to the hotel later in the afternoon.
We will do the last-minute preparation and packing for the trekking adventure to start tomorrow.
Day 3 – Kathmandu – Biratnagar (35min flight) – (B, L, D)
We will fly to Biratnagar today. About 35 minutes of flight today takes us to the eastern part of Nepal. Biratnagar is one of the major cities in Nepal that is the base for the flights in the eastern mountains. We will stay overnight today at Biratnagar.
Day 4 – Biratnagar – Suketar – Mitlung (850m) – (B, L, D)
It is another day of a short flight to Suketar in the mountains. We will start the trekking adventure too after landing at the Suketar airport. The first day of the trek takes us to Mitlung following the Tamor River valley. It will take us around 5 hours to reach the destination for the day.
Day 5 – Mitlung – Chirwa (1,190m) – (B, L, D)
We will trek to Chirwa village today. As we enter the middle hills, we can experience the dominance of ethnic Rai and Limbu communities along the region. The trail passes through the wonders of the middle hills along the valley. We will walk past different beautiful villages, forest areas, and crop fields along the trail. The walk today is a beautiful mix of culture and nature in the region.
Day 6 – Chirwa – Sekathum (1,640m) – (B, L, D)
The walk today is going to take us into the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area. We walk towards Sekathum today through a wide valley surrounded by beautiful nature. The trail brings us past different glacial rivers, villages, and agricultural farms before reaching the destination to stay overnight. We will also get to enjoy a beautiful view of the snow-capped mountain today as we traverse the trail.
Day 7 – Sekathum – Amjilosa (2,490m) – (B, L, D)
We will trek to Amjilosa village today. Leaving the ethnic Kiranti settlements in the lower region, we will now get to experience Sherpa settlements along the trail. On the walk to Amjilosa today, we will trek past forests, villages, and rivers. Amjilosa is a beautiful Sherpa village in the region where we stay overnight today.
Day 8 – Amjilosa – Gyabla (2,730m) – (B, L, D)
The walk to Gyabla today is only about four hours. We will trek through a forested area of various types of plants. It is a short and beautiful nature walk before reaching the Sherpa settlement of Gyabla to stay overnight. We will have plenty of time to explore the surroundings of the village once we reach there.
Day 9 – Gyabla – Ghunsa (3,430m) – (B, L, D)
We will trek to the elevation of over 3,000 meters above sea level today. The increasing elevation will take us through different vegetation than in the lower region. We descend and ascend the trail through fir and rhododendron forest and Phale village to Ghunsa village to stay overnight. Ghunsa is the largest village in the region and has the Sherpa settlement.
Day 10 – Acclimatization Day (B, L, D)
We spend an extra night here at Ghunsa to acclimatize before we walk further. As part of our acclimatizing process, we may go for a hike to one of the nearby destinations for the day. We can also explore the village and an ancient monastery.
Day 11 – Ghunsa – Kambachen (4,150m) – (B, L, D)
Kambachen is the destination of our walk today. It will take us above 4,000 meters above sea level to stay overnight. It is an impressive day of walk through the forest first and later through barren mountains, with the views of mountains, glaciers, and other beautiful surroundings. We stay overnight at Kambachen today.
Day 12 – Kambachen – Lhonak (4,790m) – (B, L, D)
We continue our walk toward the higher elevation. The trail descends and ascends to Lhonak today. Crossing different rivers and riverbeds, we eventually emerge into the village of Lhonak where we are going to stay overnight. We will enjoy the view of the mountains and glaciers as we walk along the trail past Kharkas and settlements.
Day 13 – Lhonak – Pang Pema Base Camp (5,160m) – (B, L, D)
The walk today will take us to Pang Pema Base Camp to reach the highest overnight camp of the adventure. We follow the rocky trail to the destination. The trail brings fantastic views of the mountains as we trek along towards Pang Pema Base Camp to stay overnight at the elevation of 5,160 meters above sea level.
Day 14 – Pang Pema Base Camp (B, L, D)
We take a full day at the base camp to enjoy the mountain wonders and wilderness. The day will bring beautiful views of the mountains, glaciers and dramatic surroundings. We will go for some hiking exploration that brings us better views of the mountains.
Day 15 – Pangpema – Kambachen (4,150m) – (B, L, D)
After a full day exploration of the base camp and its surroundings at Pang Pema Base Camp, we return all the way back to Kambachen to stay overnight.
Day 16 – Kambachen – Ghunsa – Phale (3,140m) – (B, L, D)
We will trek all the way back to Phale via Ghunsa today.
Day 17 – Phale – Amjilosa (2,140m) – (B, L, D)
Trek back to Amjilosa and stay overnight.
Day 18 – Amjilosa – Chirwa (1,190m) – (B, L, D)
The day walk today takes us back to Chirwa village.
Day 19 – Chirwa – Linkhim (1,520m) – (B, L, D)
Trek back to Linkhim.
Day 20 – Linkhim – Suketar (2,700m) – (B, L, D)
It is the last day of the trek that takes us all the way back to Suketar to stay overnight.
Day 21 – Suketar – Biratnagar- Kathmandu (1,400m) – (B, L)
After completing almost three weeks of walking adventure, we fly back to Biratnagar and onwards to Kathmandu.
Day 22 – Extra Day in Kathmandu (B)
We surely deserve a well-spent day at leisure after the long adventure to Kanchenjunga. It is our full day at leisure in Kathmandu.
Day 23 – Departure Day (B)
The Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek has come finally to an end with beautiful memories and experience of adventure trekking to the base camp of the highest mountain in the world. We will drive you to the airport for your departure flight.
