Itinerary
Day 1 First Day
-
Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, we will transfer you to the office for a final briefing on our tour before embarking on our adventure. If you have large luggage, we recommend repacking and storing any unnecessary items to ensure a comfortable trip.
- We will then take a 2-hour 4X4 wheeled truck transfer to reach the banks of the Tambopata River. Alternatively, if we travel by river, the journey will take over 6 hours (for information only).
- At this location, we will board a boat to the Lodge.
- Upon arrival, we will welcome you with either breakfast or lunch depending on your arrival time.
- In the afternoon, we will embark on an introductory walk through the rainforest where you will have the opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and a variety of insects, among others.
Day 2 Second Day
-
- We wake up early at 4:30 am to start our journey to the world's largest macaw clay lick, CHUNCHO.
- We'll take a boat ride for about 1.5 hours to reach the site, during which we may encounter fascinating animals such as capybaras, tapirs, and even the majestic jaguar, which some of our previous clients have been lucky enough to spot and photograph.
- Upon arriving at the macaw clay lick, we'll witness an awe-inspiring spectacle of hundreds of parrots and macaws gathering to eat clay, a necessary component of their daily diet that also helps them eliminate toxins.
- We'll take our seats and wait for the show to begin. The parrots will be followed by three species of macaws, which are among the most colorful birds in the Americas, including reds and greens, blues, and yellows. On a good day, we may see hundreds of these magnificent creatures flying overhead, an unforgettable experience.
- After breakfast, we'll take a boat back to Puerto Maldonado and then transfer to the port for an hour-long ride to our lodge, where we'll be welcomed with a refreshing fruit juice.
- After checking in and having lunch, we'll visit "Monkey Island," located across the Madre de Dios River from our lodge, where we can observe different species of monkeys, including brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, and saddleback tamarin.
- In the evening, we'll embark on a search for white caimans, typically found on sandbanks in the Madre de Dios River. Make sure to bring a flashlight! We may also spot some capybaras.
- After returning to the lodge, we'll enjoy dinner and rest for the night.
Day 3 Third Day
-
- After breakfast, we will take a 3 km walk through the dense rainforest to reach Lake Sandoval, one of the largest in Tambopata National Reserve, where we will board a rowing boat to observe a variety of bird species such as shansho cormorants, jacanas, puma herons, buzzards, howler monkeys, brown capuchin monkeys, tamarins, and sloths, among others. We may even have the chance to encounter the endangered family of giant river otters, which can reach up to two meters in length, and is a rare sighting.
- After our boat ride, we will return to the lodge for a typical lunch.
- In the evening, we will have another opportunity to walk and appreciate the diversity of insect, amphibian, reptile, and other nocturnal animal species.
- Then, we will return to the lodge for dinner and a restful night.
Day 4 Last Day
-
- At 5:30 a.m., we will start our morning jungle walk and head to our canopy walkway, which is about 30 meters high, allowing us to appreciate nature from the highest point possible.
- We will also have a panoramic view of the Madre de Dios River. From the platforms, we can observe different species of birds, including toucans, macaws, tanagers, and orioles, making it a wonderful experience.
After breakfast, we will return to the city and transfer to the airport and/or bus station.
