Itinerary
Marienplatz
As a worldwide biggest city park since the 18th century, the English Garden of Munich will be a unique walk. It is composed of a traditional Japanese Teahouse where tea ceremony can be observed. There is also the famous nudism sunbathing area called Schönfeldwiese, the surfing space for waves' lovers, the pleasant Greek-style temple Monopteros and the 25-meters-high Chinese Tower.
Mary's Square is the city's main square since the 12th century. In the old times, it was the location of many markets and tournaments. In its center is the great Marian column built in 1638. On top of it is a golden statue representing the Virgin Mary. This walking zone is amazing, thanks to the several shops and restaurants around it.
As the successor of the Old Town Hall, this place became the home of the city government. We will walk by its 100-meter-long façade and see the great statue of the Prince Luitpold. You will also discover its magnificent glass windows and the famous neo-gothic fountains with their allegorical images and representations of folk myths.
If you are a gourmet, you will love this daily food market in the middle of Munich. You will walk by its 140 stalls and delicious smells of flowers, spices, cheese, and local food. Viktualienmarkt is also the home of folkloric exhibitions like weighing competitions, brewers' events, summer festivals or dancing.
