St. George Monastery – Suruceni: A place where silence speaks louder than words. Just a few kilometers from Chișinău, in the village of Suruceni, lies one of Moldova’s most beautiful and vibrant monasteries. Founded in 1543 (or 1785 according to some historical accounts) by nobleman Casian Suruceanu, the monastery has grown into a true spiritual and cultural center of the country.
Suruceni Monastery is a stunning example of 16th-century architecture, making it one of the most photographed sites in Moldova. The complex includes a bell tower, several churches, a chapel, and a refectory, all enclosed by a high stone wall and an impressive gate. Inside, visitors can admire frescoes, religious icons, and intricate architectural details, experiencing the rich spiritual heritage of the Orthodox Christian faith.
Wine Cellar Tour: After visiting Căpriana Monastery, head towards the Milestii Mici Wine Cellar, one of the largest and most famous wine cellars in the world. The drive to Milestii Mici will take approximately 1-1.5 hours.
World Record Holder: Milestii Mici is home to an extensive network of underground wine galleries, stretching over 200 kilometers, which have earned it a place in the Guinness World Records as the largest wine cellar in the world.
Wine Tasting: Take a guided tour through the wine tunnels, where you'll see rows upon rows of aging wine barrels. At the end of the tour, enjoy a wine-tasting experience, sampling some of Moldova's finest wines. The region is known for its excellent wine production, including both traditional Moldovan varieties and international blends.
