Itinerary

Stop 1

A small, picturesque town known for its high-quality chestnuts (a local delicacy), traditional merchant houses, and its connection to the famous Edo-period artist Katsushika Hokusai (of "The Great Wave" fame), who spent his final years here.

Stop 2

Hike to the world-famous park where Japanese Macaques (Snow Monkeys) gather, often seen bathing in a natural hot spring pool, especially during the winter.

Stop 3

A charming, historic onsen (hot spring) town near the monkey park, famous for its traditional wooden inns (ryokan) and stone-paved streets.

Stroll the nostalgic streets, see the numerous public bathhouses. The town maintains a very traditional atmosphere.

Stop 4

A near-1,400-year-old sanctuary that is one of Japan's most important pilgrimage sites. You can even try the mysterious "Key to Paradise" experience in its pitch-black underground passage.
