Itinerary
Isle of Skye and Its Fairy Pools
Setting out from Inverness in the morning, you’ll start your day with a visit to the lush woodland trails of Rogie Falls and wide-open views across Loch Carron - two striking Highland landscapes that set the tone before crossing over to ‘the misty Isle’. Start your Highland adventure with a leg-stretch at Rogie Falls before stopping to take in big, beautiful panorama views over Loch Carron. We cross the Skye Bridge to the legendary Isle of Skye and take time for some coffee in a charming wee village.
There’s time for a wee coffee break as we head west for one of the day’s highlights: the Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. This beautiful trail sits beneath the dramatic Cuillin Mountains and follows a river dotted with small waterfalls and still, clear pools. Once you’re there, it’s easy to see why places like this have inspired folk tales of fairies for centuries.
After our walk, the journey continues to Dunvegan, where you’ll have the option to visit Dunvegan Castle, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and the ancestral home of the Clan MacLeod for over 800 years. You can explore its historic halls and formal gardens and enjoy lunch in the village nearby. From there, we wind our way through Skye, stopping in the island’s colourful capital Portree before a final photo break at Sligachan.
On the way back to Inverness, the route includes more postcard-worthy stops at places like Eilean Donan Castle and Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, returning to the city in the late evening.
