Day 1
Inverness to Portree
-
We set off from Inverness and trace the misty shores of Loch Ness
We set off from Inverness and trace the misty shores of Loch Ness. Look out for ‘Nessie’ as we stop at the hauntingly beautiful ruins of Urquhart Castle, overlooking the deep, dark waters. We continue to the charming village of Fort Augustus at the southern tip of Loch Ness. Head south through dramatic glens before visiting the historic Commando Memorial and view Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, from afar.
Next, we make our way to the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct – famed for its appearance in the Harry Potter films – where you can take in views of the Glenfinnan Monument standing proudly at the head of Loch Shiel. We then journey through the rugged terrain of Glen Shiel, surrounded by towering peaks and tales of Jacobite history. Crossing the Skye Bridge to the Isle of Skye, we continue through the marvellous Cuillin Mountains before reaching our overnight destination in Portree.
Day 2
Isle of Skye
Day 3
Portree to Inverness
-
We bid farewell to the Isle of Skye and head to the romantic Eilean Donan Castle, reputedly the most photographed castle in Scotland. We continue south-west and soak in the stunning scenery before stopping for lunch at the picturesque village of Beauly.
With our energy replenished, we visit a Highland whisky distillery to warm our bellies with Scotland’s favourite national drink and learn how ‘uisge beatha’ is made. Listen to the tales of the last battle fought on British soil as you explore the grounds of Culloden Battlefield, followed by a visit to the standing stones of Clava Cairns; made famous by the hit TV series Outlander. Our Isle of Skye tour comes to an end as we cross back into Inverness in the early evening.
