Zeugma Mosaic Museum
Zeugma Mosaic Museum, located in the historic and ancient city of Gaziantep, is home to the oldest mosaics excavated in the Belkis-Zeugma area. It’s always remembered as an artistic masterpiece named the world’s largest mosaic museum in 2012, coinciding with its opening. Most mosaics showcased in the museum are from villas dating back to ancient Rome.
Gaziantep Citadel
Gaziantep Citadel is a Seljuk castle belonging to the 12th and 13th centuries and the symbol of Gaziantep’s history and architecture. It was reconstructed during the Byzantine Empire in the Byzantine period. It’s located on a hill about 25-30 meters high right in the city center in the Kanber Sokak area. Due to its convenient military position, it dominates the whole city. It is said that the castle was originally built as a watchtower in Roman times and developed over time. The citadel offers you a stunning wide view of different spots of the city.
Gaziantep Zoo
With an area of 100 hectares, Gaziantep Zoo is one of the largest zoos serving as a national park in Turkey. The most interesting parts of this zoo are the aquarium and its birds, among which you can visit eight species of monkeys, a reptile house, deer, eagles, horses, crabs, zebras, camels, kangaroos, and mountain goats. There are also herbivores animals such as lions, tigers, leopards, and bears.
Zincirli Bedesten
Another place of interest in Gaziantep is its famous bazaar called Zincirli Bedesten. Dating back to the Ottoman period, Zincirli Bedesten is more than 237 years old, providing an interesting spot for buying and selling groceries, trade, and industry. However, today it almost serves as a tourist spot showing the culture and history of locals. A part of this bazaar is dedicated to the 500-year-old industry of blacksmiths.
Gaziantep Archeology Museum
Gaziantep Archaeological Museum is a collection of mosaics discovered at the ancient Roman city of Zogma. It contains artworks and artifacts from the Bronze Age, Hittite, Persian, Roman, Hellenistic, and Commagene pottery, Ottoman, Islamic coins and medals, a mammoth skeleton, and concrete tombstones from Zogma, and a Christian tombstone. Gaziantep Archaeological Museum is a time machine traveling you through history where you can explore ancestors’ lives.
Hamam Müzesi
Hamam Müzesi, constructed in 1577 by Lala Mustafa Pasha, is one of the most stunning symbols of Ottoman bath architecture and culture. For many years, it served as the bath for Pasha. In 2015, Gaziantep Municipality changed it into a museum. Several sections are displayed to the public in this museum, including the cold, heat, temperature parts of the bath and utensils from the Haluk Perk collection, bath numbers, sculptures, and wax models.
