Things To Do in Athens

Parthenon
Parthenon temple sits high aloft a multiplex of temples known as the Acropolis of Athens. It’s a dazzling marble construction with over 13,400 stones built between 447 and 432 B.C. during the ancient Greek Empire. Mixing the two architectural styles of Doric and the newer Ionic, Parthenon is the largest Doric Greek temple with eight pillars at the entrance and seventeen at the sides. It initially aimed to preserve Athena’s precious statue, created from ivory and gold by the eminent sculptor Phidias. Wander around the giant pillars and soak up in its greatness.

Temple of Olympian Zeus
Also known as the Olympieion, the Temple of Olympian Zeus in Athens was built over several centuries starting in 174 BC and finally completed by the Roman emperor Hadrian in 131 CE. Zeus, one of the greatest and most prominent myths of ancient Greece, known as the god of gods, is one of the most amazing seven ancient wonders. Its importance led to the construction of a magnificent temple. The temple’s very tall pillars are more than 17 meters high, making this structure one of Greece’s largest temples.

Syntagma Square
Syntagma, the most famous and prominent square in Athens and even Greece, is the city’s geographical center and the hub of commercial, political, and social activities. It is directly located in front of the lovely old Royal Palace that houses the Greek Parliament. The square dates back to the early 19th century when King Otto changed its capital from Nafplio to Athens. It’s now considered one of the most famous tourist destinations and a gathering place for leisure time, concerts, and many events.

National Archaeological
Ancient Greece, the cradle of art and history, is full of museums showing this country’s history in the best possible way. Many scientists and philosophers grew up in this city, a blend of history and modernity. National Archaeological Museum is renowned as the largest museum in Greece and one of the best worldwide. With more than 20,000 works, the museum showcases a fascinating view of Greek civilization from prehistoric times to late antiquity, archival images and photographs, and a library collection of rare books.

Mount Lycabettus
Mount Lycabettus, also known as Lycabettos, is a 277-meter high mount in Athens. Don’t miss out on Athens’s ancient city’s spectacular panoramic views and the Aegean Sea from atop Mount Lycabettus. On the crown, you’ll find a small cafe welcoming tourists with its mouthwatering meals. It also houses a small church and a theater, where the country’s major music concerts and even international concerts are held. Indulge in the most stunning sunset from Mount Lycabettus’ apex to record a very spectacular and memorable experience.
