Philae Temple (Temple of Isis)

Isis was dubbed the Mother of God, the kings’ protector and healer, and life-giver. Due to the construction of the Aswan Dam and the High Aswan Dam, the island submerged. To protect the temple endangered by the river damming, a dam was built surrounding the island.

St. Simeon Monastery
St. Simeon Monastery was initially built in honor of saint Abba Hedra. In the 10th century, the fortress-like 7th-century Monastery was renovated in dedication to St. Simeon. From then on, monks traveled to Nubia dreaming of converting the Nubians to Christianity; at last, Salah ad-Din demolished the structure in 1173. Encircled by desert sands, the religious site was constructed on two levels, where the upper level is made of mud brick, and the lower is made of stone.
