Yala National Park is a national park in Sri Lanka. The reserve covers 979 km², although only the original 141 km² are open to the public. It was established in 1894 as a Game Sanctuary. Much of the reserve is parkland, but it also contains jungle, beaches, freshwater lakes and rivers and scrubland. The latter zone is punctuated with enormous rocky outcrops. The range of habitats give rise to a good range of wildlife. We were eager to explore Yala National Park and were not disappointed. The highlight had to be spotting a couple of elusive leopards lounging under the trees, which was simply unforgettable. While the early morning drive from Hikkaduwa in Sri Lanka felt a bit long, the chance to witness such diverse wildlife made it all worthwhile.

We ventured into Yala National Park with high hopes of spotting leopards, and the experience was truly thrilling as we encountered these majestic creatures and a variety of other wildlife. The only downside was the long drive from Hikkaduwa in Sri Lanka, which cut into our time in the park, but the vibrant scenery made it worthwhile.
