Stefan cel Mare Blvd Walk Stefan cel Mare Boulevard is one of the most prominent streets of the Moldovan capital. The 3.8-km thoroughfare is lined with numerous buildings of social and political importance, cultural institutions and shops. Historically, it is believed to have stemmed from the road that led into the city from the Russian military camp stationed to the west of Chisinau in 1789. Long before the city plan was adopted by Russian Emperor Alexander II in 1834, the construction of the Nativity Cathedral started together with the Public Garden (now known as Stefan cel Mare Park) and many other locations nearby.

The National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova is one of the most important museum institutions of the Republic of Moldova, in terms of its collection and scientific prestige. The State Museum of History of MSSR was created based on the Republican Museum of Military Glory, into which it was incorporated, and the historical collection of the State Museum of History and Regional Studies of MSSR. It was housed in the restored historical building of the former Chisinau Boys’ Gymnasia No.1, where formerly the Republican Museum of Military Glory had been located.

On July 5, 1957, the Minister of Culture of the MSSR, A. Lazarev, signed the order for the establishment of the Moldovan State Theater of Opera and Ballet “A.S. Pushkin,” marking an epochal moment for the further development of this prominent institution of national culture. The historical journey of the Moldovan Opera House begins its chronological account one year before the signing of the ministerial document – from the staging of the first Moldovan national opera on June 9, 1956, specifically, the opera “Grozovanul” by David Ghersfeld.
