    Uros Floating Islands
After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to the lake port of Puno, where a speedboat or a regular boat (depending of your choice) will take you to the floating islands of the Uros.Located 4 miles northwest of the city, the Uros are an ancestral society that populate a series of artificial islands built on the basis of the totora plant, which grows in the same lake. The islands are constructed by weaving the totora in the places where it grows thicker and forming a natural layer. On top of it they built their houses, also of totora, and cook outdoors to prevent possible fires. We are going to be in contact with the local people. They will show to us their lifestyle and traditions, with more than 200 families living here.

    Taquile Island
We will board the boat for an hour and a half, to continue the journey to the island of Taquile. This is Quechua, unlike the other Aymara speaking islands on the lake. It was part of the Inca empire and vestiges of this culture can still be seen in its constructions. This is the second biggest island in the Lake Titicaca with an extension of 3.4 miles. Their textiles are amazing and they are being considered as a heritage by UNESCO. The highest point gets 4,050 m.a.s.l.Later, we will enjoy a delicious Andean lunch, and then, we will return to the port of Puno, where our transport will be waiting to take you to your hotel.

Exploring the floating Uros islands was a unique experience, filled with vibrant culture and friendly locals, and the boat ride added an adventurous touch. The traditional Andean lunch on Taquile was delicious, though we did find the hike a bit challenging for some in our group.

Exploring Taquile Island felt like stepping into a vibrant tapestry of Andean culture, especially while enjoying the local lunch that showcased traditional flavors. While the boat rides were stunning, I did find the schedule a bit tight, making it hard to fully savor the scenery on the Uros Islands.

Our family spent a memorable day exploring the unique islands, with the highlight being the vibrant community on Taquile, where we marveled at the intricate textiles and learned about the local customs. The traditional Andean lunch was a delightful experience, though we felt the portion sizes could have been a bit more generous for our hungry crew. We also enjoyed paddling around the floating Uros islands, where the children were fascinated by how the locals live and work on these remarkable reed structures. While our guide was knowledgeable, there were moments when we wished for a bit more interaction and storytelling to deepen our understanding. Overall, this adventure offered us a wonderful blend of culture and scenery that we won’t soon forget.
