Tour Plan
Salta.
After hotel pickup, we will head by coach toward the city center and listen to your expert guide share the history of Salta. Founded in the 16th century by Spanish visionary Hernando de Lerma, Salta turned into a wildly successful trading center. There, you will see evidence of Salta’s heyday in the gold-plated cathedrals and mansions as your vehicle winds through the city, which went into decline after Argentina’s war for independence and the changing of trading routes on the Pacific coast. Today, Salta is known for its beautiful and well-preserved colonial architecture.
Salta - Cathedral of Salta
Reaching the central plaza, you will behold the grand, twin-towered Cathedral of Salta built in 1885 and you will learn about national hero General Güemes, whose remains rest in the cathedral. He fought against the Spanish during Argentina’s war for independence.
Salta - Historical Museum of the North
Then, you will pass by the Cultural Center of the Americas, and note the Spanish viceroyalty colonial architecture of the Historical Museum of the North, housed in the old cabildo, or town hall.
Salta - San Francisco Church
You will admire postcard-perfect San Francisco Church with towering white pillars supporting a crimson-colored façade. Its purple belfry stands 174 feet (53 meters) tall and the bell it holds was constructed out of the cannons used during the Battle of Salta.
Salta - Monument to General Güemes
Then, you will pass by the 16th-century San Bernardo Convent, one of the oldest buildings in the city and the monument to General Güemes.
Salta - San Bernardo Hill
Then, we will leave the city center and head into the foothills skirting Salta. At the top of San Bernardo Hill, you will take in sweeping views of the city and Andean peaks.
Salta - Battle of Salta Monument
You will see the Battle of Salta monument and February 20th Park, built in commemoration of the battle fought and won here during the war for independence.
Salta - San Lorenzo
You will visit the nearby village of San Lorenzo, frequented by wealthy families from Salta during the summer because of its unusual subtropical microclimate.
Return to Salta city
We will return to Salta and stop at the Artisan Market, located inside a traditional white colonial building to peruse the offerings from craftsmen who travel from all over the province to sell their goods here. You will snack on alfajores (cookies with caramel filling) and candied walnuts, or pick up one-of-a-kind purses, blankets and jewelry (snacks and shopping at your own expense). With your souvenir shopping done, you’ll be taken back to your hotel.
Itinerary
When your cruise ship docks in Buenos Aires you will be picked-up at the Port and your guide will accompany you to El Querandí, a fashionable 1867 tango venue in the city's Recoleta district. Decorated like an old tango bar of the early 1900s, this historic site will make you feel like you've been transported back to the height of tango at the turn of the century.
Before the evening tango show begins, dine on a three-course meal of international and Argentine dishes, and taste several Argentine wines from the famous Finca Flichman. Plus, enjoy coffee and a glass of sparkling wine. Featured below is a sample menu, offering many choices for a starter, main course and dessert.
The exciting show begins around 10:15pm, highlighting the history of tango and Buenos Aires from 1860 to the present. Prepare to be delighted by the fiery performances on stage as four couples demonstrate their remarkable moves while tango musicians sing and play the accordion, piano, violin and bass. You'll be blown away by the skill of some of the best dancers in the city!

Exploring the historic landmarks and scenic views during our city tour was a delightful experience that exceeded our expectations. We particularly loved wandering through the vibrant streets and soaking in the rich architecture, but the pacing felt a bit rushed at times, making it hard to fully appreciate each stop. Overall, this excursion provided a wonderful blend of culture and beauty, and we left with plenty of memorable photos and stories to share.

Wandering through Salta, we were captivated by the stunning views from the top of the San Bernardo Hill—it was a highlight for our family! While the tour gave us a great introduction to the city’s historic landmarks, we would have appreciated a bit more time at each site to soak in the atmosphere.
