Tour Plan
The ancient city of Ek Balam, named after its last governor, Black Jaguar, is one of the last discovered Mayan cities and opened to the public only recently. You will see the places where sacrifices were performed, climb the Acropolis - the governor’s palace, considered the biggest Mayan monument so far, and try to resolve the altar’s mystery, which guards the entrance to the kingdom of dead.
The biosphere reserve Ria Lagartos, where we will wade through the mangroves on small boats, observing flocks of flamingos, Cayman crocodiles and other inhabitants of the reserve searching of the symbol of good luck – the "sea cockroach".
Las Coloradas. It’s a valley of pink lakes. Due to the high content of minerals and salts, the water gains a special pink color and its consistency is like one of the Dead Sea.

Exploring the Mayan ruins at Ek Balam was a highlight, especially as we climbed to the top for panoramic views. The pink lakes of Rio Lagartos offered a stunning contrast to the ancient sites, allowing us to truly appreciate nature’s beauty. One small drawback was the long duration of the tour, which felt a bit tiring by the end, but the unique experiences made it worthwhile.

We embarked on an incredible day trip that seamlessly combined culture and nature. The Mayan ruins at Ek Balam absolutely captivated us; we loved climbing the ancient pyramid and soaking in the breathtaking view from the top. Afterward, we ventured to Rio Lagartos, where the vibrant pink lakes left us speechless, as they shimmered under the sun. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating stories about the area and its history. One drawback was that the long day felt a bit rushed at times, especially when we were trying to take in all the sights. However, the private aspect of the tour allowed us to tailor our pace, which was a huge plus. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that deeply enriched our understanding of the region.
