Day 1 Nairobi to Lake Nakuru National Park

Our driver will pick you at 7:00 AM and proceed to Lake Nakuru National park which is a small (it varies from 5 to 30 square kilometers) shallow alkaline lake on the edge of the town of Nakuru lies about 160 kilometers north of Nairobi. The lake is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth - myriads of fuschia pink flamingos whose numbers are legion, often more than a million maybe two. The park now has more than 25 rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country, so the chances of spotting these survivors are good. There are also a number of Rothschild's giraffe, again translocated for safety from western Kenya beginning in 1977. Waterbuck are very common and both the Kenya species are found here. Among the predators are lion and leopard, the latter being seen much more frequently in recent times

Our experience exploring Hell’s Gate and Lake Nakuru over three days was truly memorable. The luxury accommodations provided a comfortable retreat after our daily birdwatching excursions, allowing us to unwind in style. We were particularly impressed with the knowledgeable guides who shared fascinating insights about the diverse species we encountered. Each day brought new scenery and challenges that kept the adventure exciting. If there’s room for improvement, it would be great to have more flexible dining options during the tour. Overall, this journey was a refreshing blend of nature and relaxation that we would gladly recommend to fellow business travelers.

The luxury accommodations offered during my three-day safari were a perfect retreat after hours of breathtaking birdwatching and exploring the vibrant landscapes of Lake Nakuru. While the experience was nearly flawless, I did wish for a bit more guidance from the local experts on some of the bird species I observed at Hell’s Gate.

From the moment we set foot in the stunning landscapes surrounding Lake Nakuru, we felt enveloped in luxury while birdwatching in this breathtaking environment. One of our most memorable moments was witnessing a vibrant sunset over the lake, as we savored a delicious gourmet picnic prepared by our guide. If there’s one suggestion for improvement, it would be to include more local culinary experiences to enhance the cultural aspect of this otherwise fantastic safari.
