Discover the historical essence of Arequipa with our exciting sightseeing tour. We will take care of picking you up from your hotel, located in the picturesque historic center of the city. From there, we will head towards the fascinating San Camilo Market, just a few blocks away from the iconic Plaza de Armas.
This traditional market, with infrastructure dating back to 1938, has a captivating history. Initially, it was built as the San Camilo de Lelis church in 1817 by the Red Cross order. After the devastating earthquake of 1868, the market was abandoned and, for many years, it served as a military hospital and school. The San Camilo Market is a witness to Arequipa historical events and has become an integral part of its legacy.
This place was designed by the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel and was declared a Monumental Historical Heritage site in 1987.
For approximately one hour, we will enjoy an exciting walking tour of this charming place. The market is vast, and you will have the opportunity to admire a wide variety of fresh products, such as exquisite fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and meats, typical Peruvian. Additionally, you can explore the herbalist section, where you will learn about natural medicines and their benefits.
You cannot miss the opportunity to taste the authentic flavors of Arequipa at the typical food stalls you will find in the market. Delight yourself with emblematic dishes such as rocoto relleno and adobo (optional), while immersing yourself in the culinary richness of the region. And, of course, you cannot leave without trying the delicious traditional desserts, such as the famous queso helado.
At the end of our tour of the San Camilo Market in Arequipa, we will accompany you back to your hotel, ensuring you have an unforgettable experience filled with wonderful memories.
Do not miss this unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the history and flavors of Arequipa!
