Terrace Houses, are located on the hill, opposite the Hadrian Temple. Also called “the houses of rich”, they are important for the reason that they give us an idea about family life during the Roman period. They were built according to the Hippodamian plan of the city in which roads transected each other of right angles.

Temple of Artemis or Artemision, also known as the Temple of Diana, was a Greek Temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis. It was located in Ephesus and it was one of the seven wonders of the world.

Ephesus, was the second-largest city in the Roman Empire over 250.000 people in the 1st BC. Ranking only behind Rome it was the second-largest city in the world. Ephesus was also a harbor city. And, this giant city was built only with marble. Did you know Ephesus had the largest amphitheater in the ancient world over 25.000 seats? Also see Goddess Nike, Local pharmacy, Hadrian Gate, Library of Celcius (the third largest library), Marble Street, and Harbor Street.

We hopped on the shuttle right at the port, and the drive was smooth, giving us a taste of the stunning coastal scenery. Once we arrived, the scale of the ancient structures was truly awe-inspiring, and we felt like we had stepped back in time. Our guide shared fascinating stories that made each corner of the site come alive, and we appreciated the small group size, which allowed for more interaction. However, a few of the paths were quite crowded, especially near the more famous attractions, which made it hard to fully absorb the experience at times. The lunch stop was a nice touch, featuring local cuisine that we enjoyed very much, but a bit more time to roam freely would have been ideal. Overall, it was a memorable day filled with learning and exploration, and we’d definitely recommend it to fellow travelers. Just a heads up: wear comfortable shoes, as some areas require a bit of walking!

We were eager to explore the wonders of Ephesus after hearing so much about its historical significance, and the journey from Çeşme port fit perfectly into our day. The highlight was definitely standing in front of the grand Library of Celsus, which left us in awe of its intricate architecture. While the guide’s knowledge was impressive, we found the pace a bit rushed at times, leaving us wishing for more opportunity to soak in the atmosphere.
