Yala National Park is a national park in Sri Lanka. The reserve covers 979 km², although only the original 141 km² are open to the public. It was established in 1894 as a Game Sanctuary. Much of the reserve is parkland, but it also contains jungle, beaches, freshwater lakes and rivers and scrubland. The latter zone is punctuated with enormous rocky outcrops. The range of habitats give rise to a good range of wildlife. Our experience on this multi-day tour was a captivating blend of culture and the island’s breathtaking scenery, especially when we stood in awe before the majestic moai. The accommodations in Hanga Roa were comfortable and provided a cozy haven after our explorations, though we wished for a little more variety in dining options nearby. The only downside was the occasional lack of detailed explanations about some sites, but the overall atmosphere and beauty of Easter Island made every moment memorable.

The moai statues held an air of mystery that captivated us, and we loved the local cuisine, especially the fresh seafood paired with traditional dishes. While the itinerary was packed with highlights, a few of the longer excursions left us a bit tired, but the breathtaking views and vibrant culture made it all worthwhile.
